For 5.7L HEMI: what octane rating of gas do you use?

Since the two currently available gas engine options of Jeep Grand Cherokee have different gas recommendations and my car is a 2014 Grand Cherokee Overland with 5.7L Hemi, I want to make this thread to be specific to that engine.

The manufacturer recommends the use of 89 octane for optimum performance and I am curious: what octane rating do you use and what is your observation of the performance and gas mileage.

I use 89 octane as recommended. I don't concern myself with gas mileage I just drive.

I have run 87 for 45K miles. No issues. Great fuel economy. (I'm a light-foot driver) If I were towing a lot, I'd go to the 89, but that wouldn't be convenient otherwise...a lot of my gas is purchased at Costco and they don't carry 89.

The only time I use 89 is when I'm towing. Otherwise I just use a top tier 87 petrol. Is there a noticeable difference? Nope. Just makes me feel better.

Re: For 5.7L HEMI: what octane rating of gas do you use?

Started using 87 when I first got my hemi. Ran mileage test on both 87 and 89. Got better mileage using the 89, enough to justify the cost. Besides the recommended was 89, must have been for a reason. Have a car that recommends 92 and states in the owners manual that if anything less is used to use only enough to get to a station that has 92. Must be a reason for that statement and I'm not going to test their recommendation.

Just my $.02 worth.

I've always ran 87 in mine. Has 80,000 miles now. Still runs like a champ. Also at 50,000 miles I changed out the spark plugs and use iridium, not copper. No problem.

Re: For 5.7L HEMI: what octane rating of gas do you use?

I run 89 Octane in my 5.7l Overland. I also noticed a marginal improvement in fuel economy over multiple fill ups without changing driving habits. I estimate I'm getting another 1 to 1.5 mpg on the 89. To be fair, I didn't adjust for differences in weather etc...

Octane does nothing for gas mileage. I have used both 87 and 89 and the only difference I found was a bit better performance when towing or when climbing hills. I usually run 89 because it's only a couple of dollars more per tankfull.

I use the recommended 89 octane. I have used regular without a problem, but I figured I'll just pay the extra and get the gas that the car required.
