Asked and discussed many times - consensus is to do as the manual suggests. 87 for the 3.6 "as using premium in either engine offers no additional benefits" according to the manual.
I have been using 87 for my 2011 since February of that year., never a problem.
Try filling up at a different gas station next time. If still happens, then go to a different service dealer. You could have shot plugs which very very rarely does happen.
And if you do not have a tuner running or a turbo kit or a supercharger, 87 is all you need. Just as the manual and other threads about the 3.6 gas has been discussed.
Use the manual folks. There shouldn't be any debate unless you have heavily modified your Powertrain. If the dealership told you that pinging is normal than they are insane. Good luck with that.
OP, why would you even consider using premium fuel which the 3.6l was not designed to run on? Use the recommended regular 87 octane. There is no benefit whatsoever and is only going to cost you more money.
