Re: GC '98 with 5.2 V8 vs '11 with V6

Joe,

Your comparison is leaving out one key data point -- your '98 weighs 3600 lbs, while the Laredo 4x4 with the v6 weighs 4600 lbs. That's a HUGE difference.

So -

1998:
Torque/Weight: .08 ft-lb/lb
HP/Weight: .06 hp/lb

2006:
Torque/Weight: .06 ft-lb/lb
HP/Weight: .06 hp/lb

In both cases, bigger numbers are better. So, the tale of the tape says that the '98 should have better pickup. The '11 is worse in both HP and torque WHEN WEIGHT is factored in.

Yeah, this is very good point. I really wanted Hemi but didn't want potential "Hemi tick" issue - I know it would drive me crazy and 2 people already reported it on forums for WK2 they saw in showrooms.

I doubt you can hear the hemi tick from inside the vehicle, especially if you use the radio. The sound insulation is very good.

I can't hear it from inside the vehicle, but I can from outside. Honestly, knowing that when I press the gas the Jeep will really go is enough comfort for me. I drove the V6 and I didn't like it at all. Reminded me of my 4cyl YJ that can't get out of it's own way.

Re: GC '98 with 5.2 V8 vs '11 with V6

Being around the Dodge community for over 10 years I have had the oppportunity to here the "HEMI TICK" in person... We currently own a 2011 JGC Laredo with a 5.7L and it does NOT have the "HEMI TICK"... It does have a faint fuel injectory noise but all new vehicles have injector noise. If some of you guys have been around the "HEMI TICK" you would know what Im talking about... The HEMI TICK is a very noticable tick... It was also found on many to be EGR valve noise.

I would not let that be the factor in getting the 5.7L or not... Your not going to have the HEMI TICK.... well at least ours doesnt have it.

JS, I'm afraid you're gonna develop a tick from wishing you got the Hemi for the next ten years.

The V6 is more than fine. It has a fair amount of pulling power and when you drive nice, it treats you good that the pump.

BTW, I wish I can drive only 5000 miles per year. I do that in 2 months

T:uFrom all the things I've heard about the hemi tick it doesn't hurt the engine just annoying. My 07 4.7 actually had a tick but I don't hear it with my 5.7. Could be overshadowed by the exhaust though lol who cares tick or no tick once you have a hemi you wont give a sh!*

Re: GC '98 with 5.2 V8 vs '11 with V6

M y best suggestion is go drive one. Drive the V6 and see how you like it, play with it and drive it just like you would your own jeep. If its good and makes you feel happy then leave it alone and DONT drive the hemi.

If it feels sluggish compared to the 5.2 or if its just no contest in your opinion then drive the hemi. If you drive both i can almost guarantee you will want the hemi just because it will be more powerful and feel better then the v6 but the v6 will feel just as good if youve never driven the hemi? Am i making sense?
