Re: Gibson Exhaust ORDERED

Okay guys, after much awaited anticipation, I have good news for you! Last night I drove about 30 miles on the highway and am very excited to say this system is DRONE FREE!
Cruising at speeds between 65-85 mph, with the radio and HVAC systems off the car had the usual road & wind noise, however the exhaust tone was equal to the stock system. With the radio on at a normal level all mechanical and environmental noises were eliminated.

The only noise I heard was when the MDS was on and I put it under load for a couple of seconds. The noise however was not out of control. It sounded like a very mild exhaust verbal. However as we know, the moment the MDS notices the engine is under load within seconds it switches back to V8 mode and alleviated all exhaust tones.

Overall I am very pleased with the system. Not only does it sound great, but it helps us "budget minded" WK2 owners get a great exhaust system for a great price! My off the line and acceleration seem to be more alive and quicker. My MPG has gone up 1.7 MPG!!! I averaged prior to having this system 12.8 and now 850 miles into the new exhaust am getting 13.8 - 14.5! So maybe with the less restrictive system the engine can work better. (Keep in mind I did not change fuel brands, or octane during this test.)

I want to end on this note in regards to highway driving; the Volant CAI made more noise than the exhaust on highway drives especially under hard acceleration.

In the city my CAI tends to make more noise than my exhaust note, which is fine with me!
Idling (both on a cold start and warm start) is very subtle. In the cabin I canít hear much of a difference between stock and Gibson. Only when you are directly behind the car crouched over can you hear a hair of difference.

End point being, if you want a loud obnoxious exhaust stay far away from Gibson. If you want something that has a factory look and sounds like a stock hemi should have sounded from the dealer then this is your axel back kit!

I am going to open this thread up for Q&A, so please ask away and I will do my best to respond.

OH!!! Don't forget to REP+ or click the THANKS button

Re: Gibson Exhaust ORDERED

Great review! Sounds like the exhaust id be interested in. What was your cost for install? And total cost?

Re: Gibson Exhaust ORDERED

I got the exhaust directly from Gibson Exhaust HQ.. The contact information is below.

My cost for install was $50. -All that is required is to saw-saw off the stock mufflers at the rear differential, and then use the clamps provided to lock in the Gibson system. I however will probably go back in a couple of weeks and have them remove the pipe clamps and just have them weld on the Gibson.

Contact Info:

Gibson Exhaust
Contact Name: Robert - tell him your from JG and you saw this review.

Re: Gibson Exhaust ORDERED

Thoughts on aluminum vs stainless steel? I'm up in the pnw away from the coast and i dont believe the roads are salted here. Or would it make sense just to go with the SS and disregard the negligible weight difference...

Re: Gibson Exhaust ORDERED

Awesome news, thanks!

If I do order this, I will probably purchase some band clamps as I think they have a cleaner look than the skinny crimp-style that it looks like Gibson includes.

Re: Gibson Exhaust ORDERED

So how do you think the sounds differs from stock from a stand-still -> Full-throttle launch? Sounds like it's pretty mild in every other situation, but the hammer-drop off the line is where I want to hear something sweet.

Perhaps not a complete test, the drone most complain about here seems to be when MDS is engaged. There aren't many systems or exhaust mods that drone otherwise. In fact, one of the work arounds is to slap stick it out of D which disables the MDS and, for 2012 and newer, doesn't effecting the shifting otherwise.

If you get a chance, use the cruise control to maintain a steady highway speed with MDS active, and see if the exhaust tone becomes annoying.

Also it would be helpful if you check mileage after you have 500 or so miles on the new systems. We've seen many here to initially claim 1-2 mpg better mileage and the only ones we here from again (perhaps are not the sales guys that like to post to this site and disappear) report that there is no noticeable change in mpg or performance. Nice sound however.

Just saying... sales guys typically ask for rep points... but call me a skeptic.

He had less than 2 days before your post. How about giving the dude some time to get it on the highway and the time to report back Negative Nancy. Jesus!

Re: Gibson Exhaust ORDERED

Very good review. Is it worth cutting the factory exhaust? Would you consider this a permanent thing? I'm seriously thinking doing this after changing my 2011 Limited to a '12 Laredo X. The only thing I miss is the dual exhaust.

Cold Case: This weekend I am going up to my friends boat about 40 miles away. I will try both the cruise control and adaptive cruise for you guys.

My history with this exhaust on the freeway consisted of smooth constant 75-80 mph driving, 90% of the time with the MDS on.

In regards to MPG, maybe I was just lucky, maybe the exhaust had nothing to do with it. All im saying is after the installation of the exhaust the average MPG has gone up and I feel like when taking off the line the car has an easier time climbing on the MPH. -- So that is just my experience with it.

In efforts to remain transparent to the JG forum I must clarify that Gibson Exhaust is not endorsing nor financially funding this review or the opinions expressed by myself. While I am not a "sleazy sales guy or shady car salesman" I do work for an automotive auto group, and am responsible for our marketing and business development centers throughout our dealerships.

I asked for the "Thanks" and "REP+" because in all the other forums I am apart of (Audizine, e90fanatics, ClubLexus, Tundraforums, Ih8mud, etc) we all use this to help one another and show the "newbies" that we know what we are talking about.
