Maybe I'm old skool...but you sill have a good ol' v-8 Hemi. I havent had one for a long time, and forgot what it feels like to hear that exhaust and feel the power for what its meant for. I dont think most buy the Grand Cherokee with a hemi to drag race. Ecoboost v-6's are for hipsters anyway!

J/K..no offense to any hipsters out there!

The explorer sport may be bang for your buck, and it shows it. It's a pos. My sister had one until ford bough it back from her, it needed a new transmission. It's kinda like the Taurus SHO, it a class of its own. It is a lot faster than a GC with the 5.7 but it's eagerness to do 6000 rpms every time you take off from a light is annoying and it's personality is about as blan as electronic power steering.

Re: Got demolished by a Ford Explorer Sport

Wow I am impressed by everyone who has posted here and their ability to go fast in straight line. In regional SCCA Racing for the DC region used to be a class called GTP. P stood for Pinto. At Summit Point I am guessing a well prepped GTP car would eat stock 2014 GC SRT alive with equal drivers.

I test drove both the V8 and V6 versions and chose the V6 because I preferred the chassis balance and handling. Found the V6 powered GC late braked, trail braked, hit the apex and tracked out a heck of lot better than the V8 version. Being lighter braking was better.

I also test drove Explorers. A nice CUV that handles like a FWD car. GC handles like a RWD vehicle with AWD. Its kind of like the difference between
RS4 and a M3.

Now the real test is taking the Explorer Sport down a farm road, fire road, trail, and across a farmer's field. Its doesnt do as well and even GC SRT8 will have problems. And 2014 Range Rovers probably have less issues than either the Explorer or the GC.

If you want to dust Explorers and GC SRT8s on straight roads and roads that have curves spend some bucks and get a 2014 RR Sport. It go as far off road as any GC maybe farther.

Finally find a good high performance driving school ie check out BMWCCA and your local PCA chapter if they allow other makes and learn how to drive. Most of you have no clue.

Well Scott cant find any published tests for either vehicle. Manufacturers 0-60 mph are within a couple tenths. RR Sport is 300 or so pounds lighter and has 40 more hp and your GC has 4 more ft lbs of torque.

So what tests are you quoting from. And when the roads get curvy 300lbs makes a difference and when the roads get curvy and your off road the RR Sport wins every time.

Some mag should run them both up Pikes Peak and maybe a Mint 400 lap for time. And then run both around the Glen.

The last RR sport beat the SRT8. The new one now uses the same 8spd and is lighter than the old. I would bet money that it spill still win. Topgear America raced the older models and the RR really walked away from the jeep once they got moving. The supercharged engine will also make mote torque across the range as well. It is damn pricey though. If I didn't have to pay for them I would take the RR anyday.

Re: Got demolished by a Ford Explorer Sport

Unlike the SRT 8 the RR Sport can can just as far off road if not farther than any trail rated GC to include the Trailhawk.

Someone in the UK or EU is tuning Range Rover SCs to put out over 700hp

I've read that the Range Rover Sport Supercharged will do 0-60 in 5.0 sec (estimated by Land Rover). That's slower than the WK SRT8 (2010 and prior with only 5 gears). Correct me if I'm wrong.

My stock 2014 does 0-60 in 4.3 all day long with my best time of 3.9. So the fellow that stated the RR Sport is faster then the SRT appears to be incorrect.

Re: Got demolished by a Ford Explorer Sport

my god...use google.....or youtube. SRT NEVER released a time for the 14...cause its in the mid 4's. RR says the RR sport does it in 5.0. The 12-13 did 0-60 in 4.8 according to release from SRT. Many publications have done 4.3-4.6 in the 14 Jeep. You use topgearusa vids...that was fatboy RUTLEDGE driving the 2013 SRT vs. the race car DRIVER in the RR sport. So start again!

Heres even more proof for you....a VIDEO of my OWN 2014 running a 3.7 0-60

Wow I am impressed with your times but you didnt test the RR Sport under same conditions so any comparison isnt valid. Top Gear USA is a joke. Life isnt just 0-60 or 1/8 mile drag strip runs.

And I am sorry are your SRTs stock???? We are talking stock right off the dealer showroom. If it isnt stock than there is a 700hp tuner version available just to make things fair.

What would be interesting is to 0-60mph or 0 to100kph on dirt in both vehicles.

Has a 2014 gone up Pikes Peak? Might ant to compare its time to the RR Sport.

Sorry boys you need to compare Apples and Apples and not apples and limes and Cherries and tomatoes.

Someone will do a comparison soon 2014 GC SRT, 2014 RR Sport V8, AMG GL63, X5Sport 5.0 and Audi Q5. Its a natural. Bet its already been done and just waiting publication.

GC SRT8 is a nice SUV. I haven't driven the 2014 but I have driven 2014 RR Sport V8 both on off road and on terrain my 2012 GC sees weekly. A SRT, X5, and Q5 cant go as far off road and RR Sport was more controlled off road than my GC with the ORA I package. RR's air suspension is at least a generation ahead of Jeep's off road. On road Rr is few years ahead. I have driven a 2012 GC SRT. 2012 SRT would have issues going cross the fields and valleys I cross. My V6 GC is better balanced than the SRT chasing apexes.

Best of all 2014 Range Rover and Range Rover Sport are probably more reliable than entire 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee line. Notice this excludes the LR4, Evoque and LR2.
