I think in the new 8 speed it would have been far closer. Problem with a V8 vs that turbo 6, you run out of RPMs faster than he does. The new 8 can shift a lot quicker and would put more pound feet of torque to the pavement in 2nd gear with the lower ratio.

Now saying that, the EcoBoost is fast but it is also lighter and I think the max tow rating is 5000 or less. Even if you don't tow, the chassis strength on the JGC is still going to translate into better longevity for the vehicle. It will be stiffer and ride nicer down the long road. Go drive a GMC Acadia that is 3 years old and compare it to a Durango and I know that that Acadia doesn't feel anything like it did new and the Durango (other than the HEMI fish bite) it quite and solid inside. You take away a lot when you try and drop the weight down.

I don't care if the Ford Explorer Sport is quicker...my Jeep Grand Cherokee is a REAL off-road vehicle...body on frame design, and that's why I bought it. PLUS my V6 get better gas mileage to boot!

The Grand Cherokee has always been a unibody design.

Yes since the very beginning, in fact, Lexus always claims they created the cross over, in fact it was Jeep and always had the strongest unibody of any of them!

My mistake, your right.

I got confused about Jeep claim of the Grand Cherokees UniFrame construction.

"In addition to Jeep's UniFrame construction, Daimler Chrysler partnered with Porsche to further strengthen the frame. This was done to reduce NVH. UniFrame is an unusual construction scheme, it incorporates all of the strength and durability of a body-on-frame construction into a unitized construction. By adding stiffness and rigidity to the structure, they enhanced the ride and strengthened the network of steel beams, rails and pillars (or "safety cage") that surround and protect occupants. More than 70 percent of the underbody is high-strength steel. All Jeep Grand Cherokees feature UniFrame construction."

Time for a hemifever tune! The mid range is kick ass and keeps pulling with my tuned hemi. You would not given up the distance.

LoL, the story should serve as a reminder to all. I can't wait for all the V8 / Diesel hype to die out. Get this V8, need that diesel...and it will go like stink.

At 4800-5400 lbs, nobody has any business drag racing a Grand Cherokee other than an SRT

I care about the power and often that is rated in acceleration but I care about it pulling away from a stop with 7200 Pounds of adventure camping fun behind me!

As mentioned in my original post I don't "drag race" my grand cherokee. This guy in the explorer was driving like a complete jack wagon and cut me off almost clipping my front bumper. I knew that on green he would take off so I figured why not see what the HEMI could do. And you don't have to have an SRT jeep to "drag race". But to each their own.

Even a stock srt8 only does what 4.8 0-60? Is impressive for a heavy suv I don't know but aren't most sport cars over 60k faster ? I think the cheapest infinity will stay with an srt8 jeep. I wouldn't ever buy a jeep str8 to drag race unless you get that nice super charger put on it.

Though I like your camping comment.... I think you missed the entire 2.5 series of the infinity group. Not to mention the ability of a 2014 to go directly from 8th gear to 3rd while the infinity driver waits for his CVT to unwind itself (most common infinity driver complaint)

You should go sit in the passenger seat of an SRT and have someone demonstrate Launch Control to you.... you may be surprised!
