Ground strap, where does it go?

2012 Overland with the Pentastar. Yesterday, under the hood, I found a ground strap on the passenger side that came loose. One side is bolted to the frame, but I don't see where the other end is supposed to go. There's some auxiliary relays behind the main power box above and possibly within reach. Here's a picture with the loose end draped over the alternator pulley:

Should be somewhere at the engine. Check suitable places at the block or at headers.

Re: Ground strap, where does it go?

My guess is to on of the power box mount screws above and a bit left? in frame...should see the other end of ground, an oval washer with rough edge...

Re: Ground strap, where does it go?

While I appreciate the responses, I have looked all around within range of the strap, without taking stuff apart, and found nothing. The engine has it's own, much larger, separate ground. I'd appreciate it if someone would open their hood, locate the strap and describe where the other end goes.

Ground strap, where does it go?

That strap goes to a small stud on the passenger-side engine mount in a rather unspectacular press fit method.

It should be easy enough to find in the catalogue and replace, but thanks to the stud not being threaded it will be a dealer unique item with very little alternative.

Try a hose clamp.

Here it is up close:

Re: Ground strap, where does it go?

Thanks again. The connection is well hidden behind the alternator. I managed to get the old one off- it's sort of like a speed nut but a lighter gauge, to be pressed on. Because of the location and angle not easy to get back on. The post though, is slightly tapered and may take a nut of the right size and self-thread on. 1/4" is too small and 5/16" too big, so I'll try a 7mm, and use that with a ring terminal.

Re: Ground strap, where does it go?

I found the same broken ground on my 2012. Were you able to get the new one on? I'm still trying to find the replacement part.

Re: Ground strap, where does it go?

All this is, apparently, is a ground to a part that is rubber isolated from the rest of the vehicle, probably to prevent long-term corrosion. Disconnected it is not going to cause driveability issues. I've been busy at work and my hobby car projects so my daily driver hasn't been getting the attention she deserves. However I just passed 100k miles on her so have a box of parts and fluids to do a major maintenance session.

When I do I'll either use a 7mm nut on the tapered stud with a crimp-ring connector on the ground strap, or i'll drill and tap somewhere where I can access it more easily.
