Re: Hemi Gas Mileage

If the EPA rating is 13/19, how can you be complaining when you get more than it says? Most cars I had usually get less than what the EPA rating is so I am extremely happy with it.

Re: Hemi Gas Mileage

Read the window sticker. Highway can range from 15-23MPG. 19MPG is the combined average.

ECO light doesn't mean it is in 4 cylinder mode it means you are saving fuel. AKA driving in a saving manner.

Page 310 of the 2012 Grand Cherokee Owner's Manual states (in pertinent part):
Quote:
The FUEL SAVER MODE message will display above the average fuel economy in the EVIC display. This message will appear whenever the Multi-Displacement System (MDS)(if equipped) allows the engine to operate on four cylinders, or if you are driving in a fuel efficient manner.
"The FUEL SAVER MODE MESSAGE" is the ECO light. Remember, we're talking about the HEMI, which is equipped with the MDS.

Re: Hemi Gas Mileage

Yeah... Mine comes on when it drops the four Cylinders... I can feel it and hear it. It’s a distinctive engine note that is audible.

I think anyone getting over 17MPG is doing freaking awesome! Although we do 90% of our driving in the city and very little on the freeway we do seem to get well over 20 on the freeway when setting the cruse to 65MPH. But we get 13MPG and some change on average in the city. I drive harder than I should at times so I dont blame the engine I blame my Right foot.

As soon as they come out with 4.56 Gears for our Axle I will be correcting the Overall Gear Ratio which has been PROVEN to improve the MPG on Chrysler vehicles equipped with the 5.7L, 545RFE trans & tires over 30" tall... the 4.56 gears will give the MDS (4 Cylinders) more leverage to hold the .67 OD at highway speed... 3-4MPG increase between 0MPH-65MPH is the average gain.

It’s all about the math... Chrysler clearly failed that class!

SPEED SAFE, AIR RAM

Re: Hemi Gas Mileage

After almost 1,000 miles of mostly highway driving during the Thanksgiving weekend, I was able to get my average mileage on the EVIC up to 20.0 MPG. Unfortunately, the last 60 miles of bumper to bumper traffic dropped it back down to 19.4 MPG, but I never thought that I'd ever see 20.0 MPG. I used the cruise control set at 5 MPH over the posted limit and drove mostly at 60 or 70 MPH. I didn't have to slow for traffic about 90 percent of the time. Traffic was not bad at all for a holiday weekend.

By the way, the NAV proposed some funky routes when I first tried to use it. It would also sporadically decide that I was off route and recalculate. I ignored most of its advice, but took one of its apparently traffic condition based suggestions and am pretty sure that I dodged a parking lot on one of my regular routes. I decided to trust it after seeing it correctly identify some traffic accident based congestion in the middle of Pennsylvania. I'm looking forward to getting my iPhone docked on the dash so that I can compare its routes to the NAV's routes.

Re: Hemi Gas Mileage

I'd be happy with 20mpg, hell right now I'd be happy with 17mpg. Do you get straight gasoline where you're from? out here in Socialist Country (California) we get Ethanol mixed Gasoline that drops fuel efficiency by about 10%. Coming down from Mammoth this weekend for 300 miles i averaged 17mpg. My average so far with mixed driving is about 15mpg.

Although Ethanol mixes burn cleaner, they use more fuel and cost the same... and I wonder why oil companies support Ethanol mixes, LOL

89 octane in my area has 10% ethanol in it too. In Omaha, Nebraska. I was shocked at that price. I've been paying $3.30 as recently as last week and other stations have it at $3.19 on up right now.

Re: Hemi Gas Mileage

In Colorado I believe we get a summer mixture and a winter mix which is higher oxygenated (90/10 ethanol) and I have noticed a significant drop in my highway and city mileage. I purchased the WK 5.7 in July and frequently averaged a combined 22-23 mpg on 400 mile roundtrip to our mountain home on the weekends. After mid October with the same load and same trip distance I noticed that I only get in the mid 19 mph even though I now have 5K+ miles on the jeep.
