performance air filters usually flow a slight bit more, but don't trap as much dirt, and have been known to coat the MAFs or intakes with oil if the air filter is over-oiled after cleanings. An additional cleaning/oil kit is needed to clean these filters.
performance air filters flow a slight bit less, trap more dirt (flowing less & less as they do, requiring more frequent cleanings), but don't require any oil. Cleanings require only a vacuum or just soap & water.
I've used both in my past vehicles, and prefer the dry filters since you never have to oil them.
