Highway sport mode, saving gas ?!

Is it a good idea to switch from Auto to Sport mode during the driving at highway. Since the load will be 80/20 for the rear wheels. Instead of 50/50 at Auto mode.
Do any one recommended that? Does this save more gallons?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Highway sport mode, saving gas ?!

In my experience, with only short hwy runs since I bought it, sport mode seems to hold 7th gear. Switching to auto drops it into 8th. So no. Better mpgs in auto
Also I don't think sport mode is 20/80. I'm not sure but I think it's like 40/60

40/60 f/r is the default "auto" torque split. 20/80 is Sport mode and 50/50 is the off road (snow, sand, mud) settings.

Disclaimer that there is no way to correct for wind conditions, etc.:

I've run the same stretches of highway in both sport and ECO, and always get better mileage in ECO mode--to the tune of a couple miles. These are reasonably flat highways, but doing the same thing on multiple runs on Peak To Peak [a rather non-flat twisty highway] I also get better mileage in ECO than in Sport...

Having said that, I prefer Sport mode on twisty mountain highways.... and gas is still pretty cheap.

Re: Highway sport mode, saving gas ?!

Pretty sure the SRT is the only transfer case with torque splits that are set per what mode you are driving. The rest of the QD or QT 4wd systems are just variable depending on wheel slip.

Other than the SRT, switching to sport only affects the transmission and throttle mapping, not the transfer case. And since the trans won't shift into 8th gear on sport mode (unless you do it with the paddles), you'll get better highway mileage in normal or eco mode.

Re: Highway sport mode, saving gas ?!

and I believe it will not drop into 4cyl mode when sport is activated. So anyone that says they get better fuel economy in sport is probably full of it.

Huh, I looked all over WK2 and Allpar and didn't find that graph.

Up to 80% of the power going to the rear during sport mode.

On the hwy cruising to work, I'm in 8th using sport or eco. I think you just gotta drive faster

You're right. I did notice yesterday that it did shift into 8th on hwy in sport. I had only seen it stay in 7th before
