I went to my local muffler shop to see what we can do to make my 2014 Hemi sound not like a sewing machine. After some experiments with other 5.7 Hemi cars, we decided to wake it up by removing the huge muffler in the center of the car and throw in an X-pipe. The Jeep now sounds much better. I kept the resonators in the back to see what it would sound like with just the X-pipe for now. Best way to describe it would be that it sounds similar to stock but turned up to 6 out of 10. It sounds much deeper at idle and when you punch it the thing really wakes up. Not a bad mod for $200.
It's not just the sound insulation, we have double pane windows too. Take a look at them next time you're in the vehicle. I didn't notice it until I had the windows tinted.
No drone at all. I don't have any CELs so I think the emissions are safe. THe resonators seem to be doing their job though I feel I may get bored one day and replace them with Borlas or something along those lines.
Wow, this has me thinking. I would like some sound but I'm worried about drone. Is there any raspy sound on acceleration? That is hard to hear from inside the vehicle, you'd have to have someone else listen to you stomp on it and drive away. Thanks for the info. By the way, any chance to post a video with sound of you starting it up and taking off? Would love to hear what it sounds like.
I'm sure it's not for everyone, but I first deleted the resonators in the rear to get a little extra grumble out of my 2011 GC overland summit 5.7. I also welded in some 4.5" oval tail pipes. I liked the sound but after about a year I wanted some more out of it (You can probably find my previous video of how it sounded with no resonators). My most recent decision was to cut out the center suitcase muffler and add in (2) flowmaster HP2's. It sounds pretty mean now. Like I said, not for everyone, I know, but I like it. Here is a sound clips and photo of the mufflers. The iphone clip doesnt do it any justice. Sorry for the sideways filming.
Keepittight, did you notice any low end torque loss when changing the exhaust? I did the exact same thing you did, except with a magnaflow muffler and I feel that I possibly lost a little grunt on regular acceleration.
I have the 11386 magnaflow 14" muffler with the built in x pipe and still a little loss in low end torque. I was talking to Sean from hemifever and he expressed that's typical with an exhaust.
I would really like to hear a video of how this sounds with just the x pipe and stock resonators! I am going to be doing something to mine shortly and need to decide between this or a magnaflow 14" true x muffler and the stock resonators...
Can you post one up of you driving away so we can hear what it sounds like?
On the way back from dinner, I had the fiance' jump out at the middle school down the street and snap a quick acceleration vid. Its nothing special but gives you an idea. I can try to get some WOT drive by passes if ya want. This acceleration was only up to 3500RPM's.
I have a little bit of drone but with the radio on I can't even hear it. I'll see if I can get a video cruising on the highway and let ya know how it sounds inside the cab.
I have found it video that just remove the rear resonators ( i can not add the link too new in the forum ) what is your opinion look in you tube and type 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland Summit 5.7L Hemi Resonator Delete Stock Muffler Exhaust Mod - YouTube
I removed the resonators last week and so far no drone. It sounds great, just right.
Funny thing i didn't mention it to gf to see if she would notice, as i just got the 2014 gc about two weeks ago lol. But she did "think" something sounded wrong at times, lol. I kept it to myself , acting as concerned as she was, and "worrying" about the problem lol. Finally told her after a few days lol. Thought id share.
I will have to upload a video clip soon.
I might think of replacing he suitcase muffler later on with a magnaflow muffler ive seen mentioned while searching the archives.

Looks like the files were corrupted somehow. I'll try to reupload them tonight when I get home after the gym. The Jeep sounds great with this cheap mod BTW.
Great videos bumpin. Do you think you would be able to get one from outside the vehicle revving and an aggressive takeoff? I would really like to hear what it sounds like with some revs and load...
Sounds good though!
