I didn't realize that there was a Maserati engine under my hood

Until now:

Quote:
The base engine is an all-new 3.0-liter twin-turbo direct-injected V-6 making 404 hp at 5500 rpm and 406 lb-ft at 1750 rpm. Top speed is 177 mph, with 0-60 estimated in 5.1 (likely conservative). This new V-6, which shares its block with Chryslerís Pentastar...

But according to a newer article by Allpar it's an Alpha-Romeo, that is if you fork over more dough for the optional engine:
Quote:
Some time ago, we were told that a small number of unfinished Pentastar blocks had been sent out to Europe. We assumed then that they were to be used by Maserati, but additional information, including being able to examine the new Maserati V6, voids that assumption. Based on the information we have now, the blocks are for the upcoming 3.0 liter Pentastar V6, which Allpar first discussed years ago. The 2.997 liter V6 was designed to avoid higher European displacement-based taxes (2.997 is under 3 liters), and is likely to be used in European versions of Chrysler/Lancia cars and to be an option for Alfa Romeos.

Sometimes this parts and technology sharing works out well for manufacturers, other times not so much....

My understanding is that the new 8-speed automatic coming in the 2014s is also used in the Rolls Royce Phantom and Ghost, along with a slew of BMW models.

ZF designs and builds transmissions for a LOT of companies. Hyundai has also used this transmission since 2013. All Chrysler has done is bought these transmissions, and has converted a plant of theirs to build them as they're going to be the largest volume application of the transmission yet.
