Re: Intake air temperature

Hello Guys,
listening to you makes me happy to know i am not that crazy or car freak after all as my friends call me i just got my 2011 Overland noticed how much the air gets too hot under the hood as i can see the hot air dancing all over the hood specially in small traffic 2-3 minutes engine temps goes from 95 to 108C , engine oil same thing , i do live in Jeddah -Saudi Arabia which is hot weather but now days its only 36C max & i am getting this what will happen when next summer we reach 45 0r 50C if not more sometimes so i decided to go radical as the AC gets affected too - heavily so after i gave up on finding vented hood i bought 2 vents from my old Maserati GT Coupe , will cut the hood to install both vents & ordered from summit 2 oil coolers , engine & gear box will share the photos later on with you when i am done . the car is new with only something like 700 miles only on the odometer & i remember when i did the same trick to my old SL hood i remember seeing to huge tall hot air towers coming up from the hood , will keep you posted guys , any crazy ideas !! as i am taking all
Hasan

Re: Intake air temperature

^Hasan, I have had similar thoughts as to how to vent the hood or front quarterpanels tastefully and economically. The Range Rover side vents come to mind. I just don't have the guts and have been instead hoping for Chad at BlackOps to get a carbon fiber hood manufactured for the WK2!

Re: Intake air temperature

I would say wait for the SRT8 hood on the 2012, but it looks like that the SRT8 will be using the same factory airbox as seen in the pics here:

http://www.roadandtrack.com/auto-sho...e-srt8/gallery

Maybe that's why Chrysler hasn't produced a CAI for the WK2 yet. Possibly they don't intend to...

Re: Intake air temperature

+1 Elvis, in the 2012 SRT8 thread debates, another member pointed out that Gilles stated the new SRT8 intske draws air from lower in the wheel well, and that a CAI was not needed. It does look like the same setup as the base WK2 buy maybe there is a different snorkle setup?

BTW, great job on this thread and your data points, + rep.

Re: Intake air temperature

Guys,
sent my Jeep to the body workshop to cut the hood , so hopefully in 4 days it should be back more sexy & allot Cooler with the Maserati Vents
funny thing the guy at the body shop was lecturing me for half an hour on how beautiful is my car & its a shame that i do what i am doing & i ended the conversation by saying thanks you were paid full in advance so do what you were paid to do

Snorkle is still there:

Might be that the intakes on the hood have some ducting that directs the snorkle to a fitting on the bottom side of the hood? So, the snorkle setup is still there, but it then mates up with the hood?

Thanks for the rep - nothing muddles opinion like science...

I would bet the hood is all to vent heat, and if there really is another lower intake that it vents up under the filter box which is the first rectangle under the snorkle. EDIT: other than the snorkle and that ad hoc snow blocker, it does differ from the dual box 2011.

Re: Intake air temperature

I'd bet that the snorkle is the exact same, and the piece above it is to account for a diffreent hood profile - looks to be a solid piece across.

Re: Intake air temperature

Hasan - those vents look really nice. Excellent choice, and very stock looking. Still not sure that I would put on the bwoody intake even with those hood vents on. You would still be sucking in air from under the hood.

However, in your location, you're probably going to get relatively hot air no matter where you get it from.
