Is there anyway to eliminate the Eco-MDS Function?

In my 2013 JGC? I don't like the dropping of 4 cylinders. I'm not seeking the best MPGs.

Can this be done without a tuner chip?

Thanks but I should have included that it's a 2WD JGC so no Sport mode.

I brought up this device sometime last year in a similar thread and got flamed for wanting to have MDS always off. Funny.

I vouch for this product as i had this device on my previous 2011 Camaro SS that had AFM (MDS). Fell in love with my car all over again.

Sux that its not available for the WK2. But i wonder what happens if you plug it in the OBDII.

Thank you so much Joe. Makes sense!

Also, it seems that TSB is bogus because i have yet to see anyone confirm that it actually works.

The wording on that TSB is strange and doesn't really emphasize that it will keep the eco mode actually off.

This one is for model year 2014 and the only new item it claims to fix is eco button not retaining the chosen setting on model year 2014. It doesn't fix the only new item that it states it was issued to fix.

Soley on the ECO point read my reply in another thread:

Agreed, very odd. The TSB you reference is the old MY14 one (only V6) to the updated one that also includes the Diesel http://www.wk2jeeps.com/tsb/tsb_wk2_2100415.pdf. But it says the same thing and as the update it says the changes are marked with ** and the only thing marked as such is the ECO default thing so naturally that is what the 21-004-15 TSB is about, right?

Same thing for the MY14 V8 one, http://www.wk2jeeps.com/tsb/tsb_wk2_2100315.pdf. Hmmm

This is the main MY15 one that directly talks to ECO (only, nothing else) not keeping your preference on ALL MY15 non-SRT built 8/14/14 and before:

TSB 08-098-14 dated November 13, 2014

SUBJECT:
Fuel Saver Indicator - Economizer (ECO) Mode Defaults To ON And Will Not Retain The Customer Preference
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves reconfiguring the vehicle to allow for customer preference setting of ECO mode operation.
MODELS:
2015 (WK) Jeep Grand Cherokee
NOTE: This bulletin applies to vehicles built on or before August 14, 2014 (MDH 0814XX) equipped with 3.0L V6 ECO Diesel Engine (sales code EXF) or 3.0L V6 24V VVT Engine (sales code EHD) or 3.6L V6 24V VVT Engine (sales code ERB) or 5.7L V8 MDS VVT Engine (sales code EZH).
NOTE: Does NOT apply to 6.4L V8 SRT HEMI MDS Engine (sales code ESG).
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
The customer may describe the ECO button mode indicator lamp defaults to "ON" status and won’t retain the customer’s preference.

So here are my observations. The TSB for MY15 seems to work. So folks built August 15 and later should be able to default ECO OFF without the TSB and those MY15’s built earlier need the TSB, potentially, but will be able to default ECO OFF after applying it.

It is my guess that they intended for all MY14’s to be able to default ECO OFF after the TSB because most of the tranny complaints are from the clunk/bang/jerk behavior with ECO ON, I think. So they are probably thinking letting people run with ECO OFF might decrease complaints? Plausible?

Obviously the MY14 TSB hasn’t worked for anyone, right? I think I know why. Here are the tech steps for performing this TSB on MY14, keep in mind this revised TSB is supposedly only meant to address ** which is just the ECO default choice thing:

DIAGNOSIS:
Using a Scan Tool (wiTECH) with the appropriate Diagnostic Procedures available in TechCONNECT, verify all vehicle systems are functioning as designed. If DTCs or symptom conditions, other than the ones listed above are present, record the issues on the repair order and repair as necessary before proceeding further with this bulletin. If the customer describes the symptom/condition listed above, perform the Repair Procedure.
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
NOTE: Install a battery charger to ensure battery voltage does not drop below 13.2 volts. Do not allow the charging voltage to climb above 13.5 volts during the flash process.
NOTE: If this flash process is interrupted/aborted, the flash should be restarted.
1. Reprogram the TCM with the latest available software. Detailed instructions for flashing control modules using the wiTECH Diagnostic Application are available by selecting the “HELP” tab on the upper portion of the wiTECH window, then “HELP CONTENTS.” This will open the Welcome to wiTECH Help screen where help topics can be selected.
2. Clear any DTCs that may have been set in other modules due to reprogramming. The wiTECH application will automatically present all DTCs after the flash and allow the tech to clear them.
NOTE: Do not clear the adaptation memory cells in the TCM’s memory. This action may cause the transmission to not shift smoothly until the adaptation memory cells are re-learned.
Aaannnd, here are the instructions for the MY15 TSB that ever was only to address the ECO default choice thing:

DIAGNOSIS:
Using a Scan Tool (wiTECH) with the appropriate Diagnostic Procedures available in TechCONNECT, verify no DTCs are set. If DTCs are present, record them on the repair order and repair as necessary before proceeding further with this bulletin. If the customer describes the symptom, perform the Repair Procedure.
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
1. Using wiTECH, reconfigure the vehicle. This routine is available under the 'Diagnostic
Procedures' tab found on the home, 'Vehicle View', page of wiTECH, select Restore Vehicle Configuration.
2. Using wiTECH, clear any DTCs which may have been set during the reconfiguration.
3. Remove wiTECH after procedure is complete.
4. Place the transmission in PARK.
5. Turn the ignition off.
6. Turn the ignition on.
7. Press and release the ECO button to turn the mode indicator lamp off. ECO button is located in the center stack below the radio.
8. Turn the ignition off.
9. Turn the ignition on and verify that the ECO button mode indicator lamp remained off.

So how come these MY15 instructions that clearly are focused on the ECO default choice are nowhere to be found in the MY14 TSB supposedly addressing only the same thing? Answer, when they updated the TSB and purposely added **ECO dafault fix they forgot? to include them/change the old instructions for trans shift enhancement TSB that preceded the **ECO addition. So the dealers are just performing the old instructions with no hope of touching the ECO default. If they are re-flashing a TCM how do they hope to affect a console switch?

Is it as simple as laying the MY15 TSB instructions on the service advisor for our MY14’s? I wanna know ‘cuz I hate ECO……:slapfight:

Ok I think I understand what you are saying now Bill. Thank you.

So the only purpose of this TSB was to improve shifting quality while in ECO mode

why in the hell they would word it like this is completely asinine but consider the source of the document I guess. how about calling the line item "shift improvements while in eco mode" and avoid confusing nearly everyone that reads it including the dealers.

**ECO mode will not retain settings. If ECO mode is turned off, it will turn back on
after the ignition is cycled.**

I didn't actually see your post I think I was typing and didn't see until after I replied. my response was to what Bill had written above that, I should have quoted it. I think Bill is right the TSB was only to improve shift quality of the 14s while in eco mode regardless of the idiotic way it was worded.
