Re: Jeep dropping diesel w/ no plans to bring it back

I hated the fact that the Libby didn't have a diesel. I would pick a diesel over a gas engine anyday (when your talking about SUVs)

Fiat today, is not, and nowhere near the Fiat of yesterday.

The diesel has not been dropped. The 3.0L Daimler / Mercedes Diesel Engine has been dropped. I'll let you guys figure out which engine will replace it. I know.
Um...so you're saying they charged a lot for the diesel was innaccurate because first daimler charged a lot for it? If a 5.7 liter and a 6.4 fit, I wouldn't imagine it would be a real stretch the shoehorn and 6.6 diesel...although the allison tranny might be a real problem. I wasn't serious, by the way, but I still think it would be awesome. Fiat today is only a little better than fiat of yesterday, and the day before.

The ideal powerplant would be something like the 3 liter turbo BMW engine.

VM Motori 3.0 liter is making the diesel engine this time for the grand Cherokee

Hmmm. What else is this engine in? It rings a bell.

Yes that's exactly what I am saying. Chrysler, sadly, is still paying wayyy overpriced licensing fees and parts costs because of Daimler thinking their stuff is premium, and they want premium pricing for it. Engine dimensions cannot be measured in liters. The 6.6L Duramax is huge, although yes I know you were kidding.

Ding Ding Ding! It *was* the 3.0L from Daimler, but due to, and thanks to, the split, Jeep will go back to its traditional Diesel supplier. There's also Fiat nowadays too.

Good question. I don't think it's currently in anything at the moment, but I could be wrong. It's a brand new engine from VMMotori and produces way more power than the POS 3.0L CRD from Daimler.

Talk about a Jeep that I miss and should have never gotten rid of....

I've been looking at some on Autotrader lately but I cannot afford two Jeep payments.

You had a CRD?

Were you the one that was trying to get me into another ZJ a few months ago trying to get me into another car note? Irony

Spider-One is a jewel in the rough
Re: Jeep dropping diesel w/ no plans to bring it back

It would be amazing if Cummins/Chrysler finished up the smaller diesel they were planning and threw it in the WK2. I don't drive my CRD anymore since I got my new vehicle and the g/f took over the CRD but it's a great vehicle. Without the diesel I wouldn't have looked twice at the WK.

There is also whispers of GM installing a 3.0L V6 diesel from VW Motori into the Holden Commodore, aka, Pontiac G8.
