Well they did finish it. Sort of. For the most part. The issue was the agreement on who was going to run the plant, build the plant, etc, and all of that was dumped in the Bankruptcy. Rumor has it that talks HAVE been reinstated, and we'll see what happens.

VM Motori started in 1947 making industrial and marine diesel engines and was one of the first producers of turbo diesel engines for cars.

A VM 3.1 liter turbo diesel engine equipped the 1999 WJ (WG) Grand Cherokee in Europe. It was not very reliable: cooling problems (insufficient cooling system according to VM ) often cause breaking of engine heads.

Yep, thats it, we got it here in Oz too. Yucko.

I hope they've come a long way since I was working on VM high speed diesels in boats (my previous occupation for ten years), they were terrible things.

Re: Jeep dropping diesel w/ no plans to bring it back

That's a scoop! What transmission are you planning to use with this engine?

Many people here are starting to worry about this VM engine. I'm not: my WK2 will be a 5.7 Hemi converted to LPG.

Re: Jeep dropping diesel w/ no plans to bring it back

A friend just spotted one 2011 GC at Cento (Bologna - Italy) near VM Motori factory.

How are VM engine tests going ?

Re: Jeep dropping diesel w/ no plans to bring it back

The issue with Diesel is emissions thank your govt. in regulating it to death. the new emissions for diesel make it not viable for an option you need Urea wich smells like cat piss, to pass emissions the hole system adds a couple $K to intergrate it. I wish they would make it because I think there are people who would pay for the diesel.

Re: Jeep dropping diesel w/ no plans to bring it back

I was very close to getting a Touareg TDI a couple of years ago...took it for a test drive...the torque was a looot of fun...and knowing I wasn't getting hammered on MPG was an added bonus.
