I don't see any test drive reviews of the 3.5 ecoboost explorer. Do you have any links?

He must be referring to the 2.0EB -- which is somewhat pathetic in the Explorer. I would never pick it over the N/A 3.5 -- especially at a premium price. The 3.5 EB Sport will be a different story!

That's what I was thinking. I had the pleasure of driving a new SHO around for a few days. That 3.5 ecoboost motor is fantastic in that. It wouldn't be as fast in the Exploder but I bet it would be very comparable/faster than my JGC Hemi.

Re: Jeep GC 3.6 or Ford Explorer 3.5?

^ I'm thinking the 3.5EB will blow the Hemi away. The N/A 3.5 will give the Hemi a run. I've seen some tests list the N/A 3.5 0-60 at 7.5 secs. The most recent was 8.0 though.

Re: Jeep GC 3.6 or Ford Explorer 3.5?

The Explorer with the 3.5L is terribly underpowered, way more so then the GC 3.6L trust me. Now, if you want to wait and look at the Explorer sport, that is a different story.

The 2012 Ford explorer 3.5 is a nice looking car ( not falling behind the GC looks ) and the limited version must have a superb Sony audio system in it.
I do not know what is the driving quality though, the engine power it has and one more important issue MPG comparison between the two!!! .
I will appreciate your opinions to share based on experience.
I've owned five Explorers since they first made them in 1992. My 2002 RWD was the best riding vehicle that I've ever had up to that time. My son drives my last one, a 2004 4WD. The new one is a FWD platform, transverse mounted engine and since I do my own maintenance and repairs I'll have none of that. My dealer gave me one for 24 hours and I couldn't stand it. It's basically a minivan chassis, you can't see a thing out the rear window and the seating position is best described as "kitchen chair".

Re: Jeep GC 3.6 or Ford Explorer 3.5?

A few of my best friends own Eploders, and since I've been around vehicles for all my life. I have the pleasure of helping them fix them, and the ones that come into shops I've worked at. One of the least seen mid size trucks is the Jeep from my experience. My boss at the time wj's that both ended up with almost 300,00 miles on them. They both had the 4.0, and the only major thing was one blew a transmission. They now have WK's, and the road call truck is almost an exact match to my truck that has almost 200 on it already.
I test drove the ford it was ok, but station wagonish. I did like the snyc system allthough waiting for it to do things would drive me crazy. I really don't understand what you're saying about the audio system yeah it's a little loud. I don't feel Sony, and quality audio don't belong in the same sentence. also like Yadkin said under that hood heck no. I'm not especially happy with the looks of eother one, but the GC is better. When I drove your truck I was much happier yeah neither one is a speed demon, but if I wanted speed I'd buy the SRT. The controls, and such in the GC also just look better. I wanted to do it, but I decided I would give them a couple of years to see about that independent rear differential.

Re: Jeep GC 3.6 or Ford Explorer 3.5?

I had a 2001 ford explorer and at 60k miles the engine blew, exploded. A gasket broke and coolent got into the engine and was mixing with the oil. Thing seized up. They put a refurbished engine in. It was a 4.0l. Shitty Leaf spring suspension with a solid rear axel and all plastic inside.

Don't know how you figure that?

http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/...ad-test-review

Zero to 60 mph: 7.5 sec
Zero to 100 mph: 21.3 sec
Street start, 560 mph: 7.9 sec
Standing -mile: 16.0 sec @ 89 mph

http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/...ad-test-review

Zero to 60 mph: 8.4 sec
Zero to 100 mph: 23.0 sec
Street start, 560 mph: 8.8 sec
Standing -mile: 16.6 sec @ 88 mph

Same magazine. I don't see how the Exploder is "terribly underpowered" when that test matches the Hemi's 0-60 performance numbers. The Hemi then begins to pull away...

Not taking sides, as I have not driven a new Explorer (had 4 previous versions), but the 3.5 is not underpowered. The 2.0 EB is...in the Explorer.

Re: Jeep GC 3.6 or Ford Explorer 3.5?

The 2.0 ecoboost comes in FWD only, unless that has change since the launch of the engine in the Explorer.

The 3.5 ecoboost in the SHO and the one in the F150 is two different engines. The only thing that those two have in common is the block.

The HEMI sucks, period. All of the hemis I drove be it in a JGC, ram, or Charger, the power band seems short lived. The 3.5L, in either car gives you strong power from the moment you slam on the gas pedal. I have never seen an engine that give you strong consent power like those engines does.

The 3.5L N/A is a good motor. Rev happy but really doesn't produce true power until you are above 4.5K.

Don't know how the engine handles in the Explorer but all of the reviews seem to be good. The engine itself is bulletproof.
