Jeep Hemi vs RAM Hemi

Does anyone know why the Jeep Hemi is rated at 360 hp and the RAM 395 hp? My brother has the 2011 RAM 1/2 ton and seems more responsive and heavier than my 2011 Overland.

How does one make the Jeep motor the same output as RAM? Is is jsut a chip?

Thank You

Re: Jeep Hemi vs RAM Hemi

It has something to do with the intake and exhaust being different along with tuning.

I don't see why the Ram gets the newest stuff first?

You don't test things on you bread and butter lineup.

Years back, GM used Olds to test things they wanted to use on Buick and Caddy. Pontiac provided the same service for Chevrolet.

My guess would be that the Ram received a different seat of heads, cam shaft, timing/tuning, etc.

An intake and exhaust would add a tiny bit, not 35hp, even with tuning

Re: Jeep Hemi vs RAM Hemi

Thanks Guys,

The Ram Hemi preceeded the Jeep so I don't know why the de-tuned it for the Jeep. It seems like it would be easier just to use the same one. I can't believe nobody in the forum has tried to make the jeep motor the same as Ram's. The hemi in the Jeep with the gearing is a little disappointing. My '02 X5 4.4 L was quicker.

Re: Jeep Hemi vs RAM Hemi

I think the Ram has variable valve timing and the Jeep does not. The Ram web site says 5.7L VVT MDS, where Jeep only says MDS. With that being said, VVT would require different heads and computer tune, to control it.

Re: Jeep Hemi vs RAM Hemi

Jeep Hemi has VVT, virtually all engines do now.

Garage
Pretty sure the jeep has a different intake manifold due to hood height

I know tax and licensing varies based on horsepower so maybe because that change in horsepower would put the jeep in a higher category and a ram has its own category. Since all other midsize SUVs have around 330 hp? Just a thought.

Re: Jeep Hemi vs RAM Hemi

Don't get me wrong, but, all you need is a good set of gears to mate the power, and my 6Spd WK2 hauls ass going uphill! If it only didn't had the speed limiter... hmmmmm, wondering when a tuner will be available for mine?
