Did you look at the pics? Those bypass valves are definitely lower than the stock exhaust pipe height at the back bumper.
I personally have driven my GC through a water crossing that is 18" deep and I've probably gone through it 10 times. Haven't had any problems at all. I got my close friend to drive through it and I told him to park on a uphill right after the water and rev up the engine to 4k several times and there was almost no water coming out of the exhaust pipe at all.
