Re: K&N CAI installed - love the deep note on throttle

The V8 with this new 8 speed trans doesn't sound very beefy at all that's for sure. I'm hoping this add on doesn't drink gas while I'm enjoying the new deeper grunt.

Re: K&N CAI installed - love the deep note on throttle

The 8-speed doesn't make the Hemi work as hard as the 5 or 6 speed had to. Most of my shifts happen around 2000rpm if I'm not on it. If you drive light footed it will seem the same as before you put the CAI on. You only notice it when you lay into the throttle. So if you drive normally you may see a mileage improvement. If you drive to hear the CAI you will likely see a mileage reduction.

I guess a simple KG air filter replacement won't give the same results??

Re: K&N CAI installed - love the deep note on throttle

It will allow more airflow than the stock filter but not as much as replacing the whole stock intake. Sounds so good too without being obnoxious.

Re: K&N CAI installed - love the deep note on throttle

I see now so that whole box will be replaced and you'll have more low end grunt while using the cold air intake? Has anyone checked around for various prices on this item?

I got mine from autoanything for 230 shipped. I looked around and at the time it was the cheapest. I talked to one of their customer service people and he knocked like 30 off, at least that's what he told me.

Re: K&N CAI installed - love the deep note on throttle

Technically, it's not a cold air intake - it's a short ram intake. If it were cold air, the intake itself would be situated in a spot where cold air can go into it directly, i.e., behind the grille, through the headlight, even on the lower grille. All this is doing is sucking hot air from the engine bay back into the engine (I'm sure some fresh air is moving through the bay, but the majority of it is hot engine bay air). This will kill MPG and "performance", if any. I doubt the butt dyno will tell you if you got any power from this add on. Regardless, this engine came tuned for the stock intake, by putting on another part, it no longer is running at peak performance. A good rule of thumb is that these parts only provide noise, but are unlocked by a tune. Either way, if you appreciate the noise it can be worth it.

K&N CAI installed - love the deep note on throttle

Buzzkill!

Enjoying it regardless but thanks for chirping in.

My MPG hasn't decreased at all and has stayed the same so far. There is more mid range punch from what I can tell. So no decrease is mileage yet I'm playing with it more...works for me. And it was free.

All modern ECU's have the ability to compensate parameters to operate at peak performance with simple bolt ons like CAI's. While a good tune will certainly help, it isn't required to notice some improvements in performance.

Re: K&N CAI installed - love the deep note on throttle

With the k/n air filters there's an oil and another process to clean it and return it back to the air cleaner box. Is this necessary with this air induction tube or exactly what is done to keep it clean other then putting this stocking like material over the cone?
