K&N CAI installed - love the deep note on throttle

Installed it yesterday with no issues. Fit is nice and looks great. Nice and quiet when driving normally ( that appeases the wife) and sounds mean on throttle. Finally sounding like a V8 should. I kept all of the stock intake just incase I ever need to go back to stock. Took me about 30mim to pop it in.

I actually didn't mind the stock note of the Hemi. I really do however like the sound of the CAI. I think that plus an exhaust would be too ******* for my taste. I hate the sound of a truck going by and all you hear is the exhaust blat. Plus I can't justify the expense of an exhaust just for sound. I got the CAI for free by referring a guy to my friend who runs a dealership. He ended up selling the guy a maxed out Overland. One friend sold another friend an awesome ride and I got a CAI out of it. Only thing I may do now is rims. Again I have a hookup for those too ;)

I paid around 230 for my K&N and I fell completely in love with my Jeep again. The sound it makes when you push the pedal down finally sounds like a V8. For free that is a no brainer, but even for 230 bucks to fall back in love with my Jeep was completely worth it.

I have had mine for about a year now. You might want to add a dry charger as it helps to keep water out and also quiets the sound just a bit. I did notice that it eliminated my dead spot when stepping on the gas.

No I don't have any issue with the water but have it just in case water gets to the filter and yes it is the cover. You can get from K&N, I got mine from Amazon.

The 8-speed doesn't make the Hemi work as hard as the 5 or 6 speed had to. Most of my shifts happen around 2000rpm if I'm not on it. If you drive light footed it will seem the same as before you put the CAI on. You only notice it when you lay into the throttle. So if you drive normally you may see a mileage improvement. If you drive to hear the CAI you will likely see a mileage reduction.

I got mine from autoanything for 230 shipped. I looked around and at the time it was the cheapest. I talked to one of their customer service people and he knocked like 30 off, at least that's what he told me.

Technically, it's not a cold air intake - it's a short ram intake. If it were cold air, the intake itself would be situated in a spot where cold air can go into it directly, i.e., behind the grille, through the headlight, even on the lower grille. All this is doing is sucking hot air from the engine bay back into the engine (I'm sure some fresh air is moving through the bay, but the majority of it is hot engine bay air). This will kill MPG and "performance", if any. I doubt the butt dyno will tell you if you got any power from this add on. Regardless, this engine came tuned for the stock intake, by putting on another part, it no longer is running at peak performance. A good rule of thumb is that these parts only provide noise, but are unlocked by a tune. Either way, if you appreciate the noise it can be worth it.

All modern ECU's have the ability to compensate parameters to operate at peak performance with simple bolt ons like CAI's. While a good tune will certainly help, it isn't required to notice some improvements in performance.

Buzzkill!

Enjoying it regardless but thanks for chirping in.

My MPG hasn't decreased at all and has stayed the same so far. There is more mid range punch from what I can tell. So no decrease is mileage yet I'm playing with it more...works for me. And it was free.

I have the K&N CAI and the Corsa on my 2012 JGC Altitude with the 5.7. Under normal driving conditions, this setup is just as quiet as the OEM system, but when you get on it...well that's quite a different story. I've surprised many people and have been told that musclecar sounds like that shouldn't be coming from a vanilla white SUV. ;)

Right now I'm seeing a little under a 1 mpg improvement around town, from around 17.1 mpg to 17.9 mpg, but I'm still heavy footing it. Haven't had a chance to check the mileage on a long freeway trip yet.
