K&N direct replacement filter

Will using a K&N direct replacement air filter void the factory warranty? It says on the K & N website that it will NOT but there seems to be many internet threads on this topic with no definitive answer. I guess I could call the dealership. Is anyone here using them?

Re: K&N direct replacement filter

I would not trust the dealership to give you an answer that would hold up to a warranty claim.
Not to start a filter war, but I would not use a K&N in a street vehicle.

Re: K&N direct replacement filter

I have the AFe drop in dry filter and it works fine. I may end up swapping to a Mopar cold air soon and sell the filter if you're interested.

Re: K&N direct replacement filter

Have been using K&N filters for decades and I used one initially in my JGC V8 but then I replaced it with an AFE Dry drop in filter as I decided I didn't want to chance getting oil on the intake sensor.

D/k about warranty as I bought my JGC used.

Re: K&N direct replacement filter

No, the only way a warranty claim could be denied is if the part caused the problem. If the filter collapsed and allowed water to be ingested, you'd be out of luck. If your radio quit working, they couldn't blame that on the filter.

Re: K&N direct replacement filter

I have been using K&N drop in and CAI for past three Mopar vehicles and have had no issues taking it to dealer or them saying anything about warranty being voided. Like stated before only reason would be if the filer element was the direct reason for the failure of a part (highly unlikely).

I had to take my 2012 JGC to the dealer for warranty work because 1/2 of my air filter was getting soaked with oil. This has happened 2 times in 6 months. After the last trip, the Service Manager actually suggested I install a K&N air filter. I asked him about reported problems with these filters allowing oil to get on sensors and it's affect on the warranty. He said they were good filters and would not affect the warranty. My next question to him was if it took 2 trips to see them so far to find out why 1/2 of my air filter was getting oil on it, how would I know if their repairs actually fixed the original problem. He just looked at me and did not have an answer. I still have a dry filter in the JGC and so far no oil on it.
