K&N Series 63 intake impressions

So I've read about every article on intake systems on this forum, and frankly there is way too much time spent on technical discussion and arguments around the efficacy of an aftermarket intake. So I'll keep it short.

I bought the K&N series 63 and I love it. Cost me just over $200 and installed it in 15 minutes. I plugged in my scan gauge II to record pre and post install intake air temps. Result- it's about the same. That said my Jeep just feels better. I tow a boat and it certainly helped. I also noticed a bit better throttle response. Did it had gobs of HP and Torque: NO. Was it worth $220?: YES.

Nuff said

I put an Airaid Jr kit on my 2007 Overland Hemi and loved it. Only louder when I got into it and sounded great. Wish I could do the same for my 2011 Hemi, but seems none are available

Re: K&N Series 63 intake impressions

I just picked up a 2013 GC for my wife a month ago and installed a Legmaker intake a few days ago. The Carbon fiber tube looks amazing, and it also dissipates heat much faster than a metal intake tube.

It looks good and may dissipate heat faster but with that filter being so close to the motor and having no heat shield (like the K&N's above) you'll be taking in a lot more heat.

Re: K&N Series 63 intake impressions

I agree. I actually spoke to Legmaker about adding 4" to the length of the tube to extend the filter a little further from the engine. I am also going to be fabricating an air scoop that runs from behind the bumper to just under the filter to help bring some more cool air towards the filter. The hemi engine is big for this smaller engine bay, so heat soak is definitely an issue.

Re: K&N Series 63 intake impressions

Any independent dynos to backup these claims?

Just because it "feels" better doesn't mean it really does. You could be getting fooled by the increase in sound.

Aside from the dyno that K&N posts...no. However, when I tow my boat up the same steep hill just about everyday, you get real used to how the truck reacts. Once I put the intake on, I no longer get a hard downshift halfway up the hill. That must equate to either more torque, HP, or simply better airflow.

As I mentioned before, I wasn't claiming a huge difference. If you don't want one, I'm not trying to convince you. For me, the sound, better looks, and slight improvement in airflow were well worth $200.

If your that concerned do your own independent dyno and report back to us.
