Magnaflow question/issue

I have the Magnaflow 16929 cat back for my 2014 Hemi Limited. I tried installing it but the X-pipe kept touching the heat shielding. I couldn't get it to allow me to have the 2" of clearance the directions ask for. When I drove it after installation the drone at around 1600rpm as the engine lugged in to high a gear was unbearable. It vibrated the cabin and made my brain hurt. So I took it off and put the stock exhaust back on. I'm thinking of getting a shop to do the job for me. Has anyone else had any issues getting the Magnaflow to fit with the right clearances or any nasty drone issues? I want to enjoy it but I know the wife and future child would hate that drone even more than I do. I did like how quiet it was on the highway and light throttle and the nice sound when floored but the other times it was just too damn annoying. Hoping you folks can help before I just give up on it and sell it.

the drone is most likely from MDS. get a tuner and turn MDS off.
i have a durango with the magnaflow, and its very close to touching the heatshielding at the x-pipe. Getting ready to take mine off due to the Drone too.

Mine didn't last longer than a 20 min drive. The drone was intolerable. Really sucks as I heard good things about the system. Had hoped it was due to contact with the heat shield transmitting the noise through the body.

if you wanna try another option, because I also had terrible drone issues.. so I researched and hand picked the mangaflow mufflers and then went to a local shop. I had them mandrel bend pipe and lay the mufflers where I wanted them and viola, no drone, quiet cabin, deep tone and sounds amazing when you step on it.

Hey Tony,
Before you get rid of that Magnaflow system, sounds like you have the X-pipe in the wrong way. It's longer on one side than the other that's why it is so close to the heat shield. I turned the X-pipe around and that fixed the clearance problem. On the drone, I spoke to an engineer from Magnaflow, he said it's the cylinder deactivation that causes the drone. Mine improved greatly after turning the X-pipe, driving 6,000 miles and going up a grade in octane. Try driving with the cylinder deactivation off...see if you lose the drone. Hope this helps. Very happy with mine, sounds great. Mike

I didn't think you could install the x-pipe wrong. The long end fits into the 2in2 out muffler and the short end into the resonators. I will check how I had it installed again. It's in pieces in my garage now. Stock is on.

I have a 2014 Hemi and can't turn off the Cylinder deactivation.

Thanks for the help. Would love this system to work out.

Tony,
The X-pipe going out to the mufflers is longer on the drivers side than the passenger side. You have it in correctly, you just need to flip it over. What is on the bottom now needs to flip to the top. Also, look very carefully at the diagram...I reviewed it three times...it shows the different lengths of the x-pipe towards the muffler. It sounds weird, but when I increased the fuel octane, it decreased the drone. Also, some mileage on the system, broke it in and improved drone.
This worked for me.....good luck. Mike

P.S. I know the '14 has an 8 speed trans, but in my '13 with 6 speed, by keeping the trans in "6" rather than "D" it disables the cylinder deactivation.

Get some headphones for wife and kids...ha! Mike

Going to give it a go tomorrow. I think I over looked the unequal length of the xpipe and muffler connections and had the driver/passenger sides of the xpipe flipped. Here's hoping that solves all my issues. Got a friend coming to give me a hand so it should go on a lot quicker.
