MDS Functionality

Sorry for the noob question...I just bought a 2011 Grand Cherokee Overland w/ the 5.7 HEMI. How can I tell if I have the MDS system?

If I do indeed have it, how can I tell when it's functioning? Is there a message or icon on the Information Center screen?

Re: MDS Functionality

You have MDS. There's an ECO light in the EVIC that comes on when MDS is active, but the previous owner may have disabled it. It won't take you long to get a feel for when it's in fuel saving mode, as you'll notice that the throttle response and engine note are different.

Re: MDS Functionality

All V8s have MDS. You can chose to have ECO displayed in the EVIC, which typically means MDS is active.

If you are cruising at a steady speed, you can usually feel/hear the cylinders drop out as it has a king of rumble to it. As soon as you apply some throttle it will pop out of MDS.

If someone put thicker oil in the crankcase, that could keep MDS from operating.

I don't "feel/hear the cylinders drop out". Really. I do try to drive in such a way that the ECO light stays on as much as possible, though, so I drive with a light foot.

Re: MDS Functionality
