New $$$ coolant required for 2013 model year vehicles

Chrysler Corporation LLC. has released a new engine coolant for 2013 model year vehicles and beyond.

The new OAT coolant is purple in color. It cannot be mixed with other types of coolant including Chrysler's existing HOAT coolant and only should only be mixed with approved OAT coolant of the same color. Maintenance of the cooling system is not required unless a repair has been made with loss of coolant or the coolant has been contaminated.

MSRP: $53.35/Gallon

Well, on the bright side, least it doesn't have to be changed every two years, if you buy a 2013 model.... Or are they gonna make us all change to it..... I wonder....

So what? How often are you going to change the coolant?

Good job engineers! Does Sergio watch over and approve these moves? Its a move to only keep their parts departments revenue flowing. I think everyone likes to keep some extra coolant in their garage, I guess we will need a different one for each of our rides now. I think we need to make things simpler - 2 choices Prestone and Zerex and you can buy them just about anywhere.

Mongoose9400 is an unknown quantity at this point
Does this new fluid have any benefits over the old?

LOL, read the post. Its a lifetime coolant. It never has to be replaced unless there is some repair where the coolant has to be drained. No different and no more costly than other lifetime coolants from other manufacturers now.

Toyota has had a special lifetime coolant for years...

The Toyota fluid is about $30 a gallon, once this gets into the mainstream it'll be about the same.

any reason why 2011/2012 users would *not* want to switch over to this coolant also?

Lifetime means when it gets contaminated with crud, it's at the end of its life.

Re: New $$$ coolant required for 2013 model year vehicles

any reason why someone with a 2006 gc shouldnt change over to that type of coolant? expensive up front... but if its what you say... could be fairly inexpensive in the long run! wouldn't mind runnin it in my 3.7 if applicable.
