Oil and grime on engine exterior ??

Does anyone know what's going on here? Why is there so much oil and grime near the cam belt on the engine ? Is something leaking?

I've noticed it before but it wasn't that prominent, seemed to have gotten worse in the past year or so. My Jeep is a 2014 3.6, no check engine lights and always serviced at the dealer.

Thanks in advance

Re: Oil and grime on engine exterior ??

I guess a couple of options here. Take it to the dealer and have them check it out, or clean it down yourself, monitor the area to determine the location of the problem.. I'd do the latter to start with..

I had same issue though it was the maintenance guys at dealer doing sloppy oils changes. Discovered it was a timing belt cover issue. Had JGC in for service and the technician/ mechanic told service advisor of the problem replaced under warranty.

Re: Oil and grime on engine exterior ??

I clean the front of my engines pretty frequently and it seems to show up there near the alternator.

I don't know if it is debris from inside the alternator but is seems to like that spot.

Some simple green and a soft bristle brush will get rid of it.
