Oil Catch Can

Does a catch can improve performance or just longevity of the engine or is it just cool looking when you pop the hood?

Re: Oil Catch Can

I have one and I'm still on the fence about it?
It catches a little bit of oil but not really a whole lot.
At best it's been catching on average about one quarter of an inch every 5000 kilometres
I hope this helps you out.
Cheers

Re: Oil Catch Can

It helps to keep you intake clean. Mine gets half full every 2,500 miles.

Re: Oil Catch Can

It serves a purpose by keeping excess oil (scavenged by the PCV system) out of the intake and combustion chambers of your engine: Oil Catch Can Custom Billet Parts and Accessories for Challenger Charger Magnum 300 Grand Cherokee SRT

I've had one on my 5.7L V8 for almost 15K miles; it catches more at highway speed on long trips than just driving around town. I've taken some trips of about 1K miles and it's half full after the trip. I'm sold on them; I'd rather dump that excess oil out than have it gum up my intake.

Re: Oil Catch Can

You all have kind of avoided my questions and simply have told me how much oil it has collected. So what purpose does it really serve??? I plan on keeping my Overland for not more than 4 years so if it doesn't improve performance then I'm not going to get one.
Thanks

Re: Oil Catch Can

I explained its purpose and gave you a link in my above post - click on it and read. Or Google it. Or do a search on this site. Get one or not, but don't get mad at us for not doing your homework for you dude.

It helps to keep your engine cleaner......some think this improves or "preserves" performance as the vehicle gets older. It's not going to make your car faster if that's what you're getting at. There are a million threads about them on here, with varying opinions on their usefulness so do some research and decide if it's for you, end of story.

It's worth a solid 20hp, and will kick an additional 9-11mpg your way, highway of course.

Re: Oil Catch Can

All the oil it Catches will not get into your Intake Manifold and buildup like a layer or black crust., miles down the line your intake and other parts will me much cleaner. It also helps to prevent the dreaded blue smoke on startup.

Re: Oil Catch Can

Easy answer for this poster. There's no immediate or appreciable HP benefit or gain. In fact for a short term owner or lease, there's no benefit at all, if you did do it the benefit in your case would be for the second owner. I am assuming all the technical aspects and function of the can are outside of your needs. Simple answer is it does nothing to make you faster or louder, so no you shouldn't bother with it.. But you can get a shiny one.
