Did I mention I sell engines? I sell, on average, 20-25 engines a day. It's what I know It's what I do. -

Do you want to know the #1 reason I will get a call from someone that needs and engine? - It's lack of oil changes. Lack of oil changes. Your daddy didnt bring you up right. or somthing.

Change the way you think.
No one here is saying don't change the oil at a reasonable interval. These nimrods calling for a new engine didn't go from 3000 mile to 8000 miles between changes. They are the ones who can't remember the last time they GOT an oil change AND/OR they are the ones who buy the 1 gallon store brand, $1.98/qt crap at wally world with the $1.50 filter for their once a decade oil change.

Use a quality oil that meets all the latest API specs and change it on your manufacturers schedule and you will never be replacing an engine due to an oil related failure. That philosophy has served me well for over 35 years and ~1 million road miles.

OMG, my engines should all die immediately then. I change my oil once a year in my vehicles and put between 15K and 25K per year on them. I had a 1992 Taurus SHO that I beat the snot out of on a daily basis. It hit redline every day at some point and I stuck to my once a year oil change routine since I got it. The tranny blew up and I decided to scrap it, the body was in pretty bad shape due to rust and dents from playing "Tag" with my friends with it. I tore the engine down and it looked great on the inside and still ran good. I was a high school kid at the time and used the crappy oil also.

Changing the oil at 3000 miles is fine and probably a lot better for the vehicle, if you are going to keep it for 11ty billion miles. I keep cars 3-5 years and get something else and never had an oil related or major engine failure. In my experience, the rest of the car will fall apart before the engine does even if you only change the oil once a year.

I will probably change my ways once a motor dies on me but until then...
