OMG, my engines should all die immediately then. I change my oil once a year in my vehicles and put between 15K and 25K per year on them. I had a 1992 Taurus SHO that I beat the snot out of on a daily basis. It hit redline every day at some point and I stuck to my once a year oil change routine since I got it. The tranny blew up and I decided to scrap it, the body was in pretty bad shape due to rust and dents from playing "Tag" with my friends with it. I tore the engine down and it looked great on the inside and still ran good. I was a high school kid at the time and used the crappy oil also.
Changing the oil at 3000 miles is fine and probably a lot better for the vehicle, if you are going to keep it for 11ty billion miles. I keep cars 3-5 years and get something else and never had an oil related or major engine failure. In my experience, the rest of the car will fall apart before the engine does even if you only change the oil once a year.
I will probably change my ways once a motor dies on me but until then...
