Why have to do any reset? Couldn't they easily have a sensor at the oil drain plug telling the computer it has been removed and it resets when replaced?

Also makes me question the real validity of the "oil monitoring" if the oil is being changed and the light still comes on 500 miles later if it wasn't reset. Guess that means its not really monitoring the oil condition at all. Not sure what its really monitoring....

So if you disconnect the battery to do some work on the vehicle, then you better make sure part of that work isn't changing the oil, or else remember to reconnect the battery before changing the oil?

The manual says it's duty cycle based. Which would mean it would be based on things like number of hours on the engine, mileage, and perhaps rpms and/or engine temperature over time, etc.
