Talking OMG! Not another exhaust thread!!

I wanted to share my recent exhaust modification because it was a long journey and it's finally over. If I can help someone else that may find themselves in a similar situation then I'll feel that I have done my duty. I hope this isn't a bore

Over the last several months I've been experimenting with the exhaust on my 2011 JGC with the 3.6L V6 trying to find alternatives to purchasing a $1000+ cat back system. Also, I wanted duals since mine came stock without. I tried chopping off the rear resonator and that was alright (probably should have just stopped there) but it wasn't duals. Then I had the bright idea to eliminate that suitcase of a muffler and straight pipe duals..simply wasn't thinking on that one lol! To avoid further wrath from my darling wife I put on a couple of cheap 18" round mufflers until I decided on a long term solution. This whole time I had been leaning towards the Magnaflow 16929 as several others here installed. I'd even been watching the Classifieds for a used one but to no avail and I wasn't desperate enough to spend $1400 which was the cheapest I'd seen. Last week I had an epiphany! As I was looking at Magnaflow's cat back I realized the muffler, resonators and x-pipe used in it were very similar to their universal products. I acted on a hunch and called Magnaflow and sure enough the components were the same.

In light of the long and probably unnecessary book I've just written above I'll finish with this. I ordered the 2 resonators (part number 12866), dual in/dual out muffler (part number 12468) and x-pipe (part number 10791) from AutoAnything.com for $348. Disclaimer, I ordered over the phone and the representative gave me 15% discount. Anyway, I took this all to my local shop and after about 3 hours but some first class work I forked out $530 for the equivalent of Magnaflow's cat back plus I have that dual exhaust I wanted

I'm working on uploading a video to YouTube for your viewing pleasure

Re: OMG! Not another exhaust thread!!

Nice! I was in the same boat (didn't want to spend $1k+ on a bolt-on cat-back) so I went to my local exhaust shop and had them cut out the stock suitcase muffler and weld in a Magnaflow 11385. Then I had them cut out the stock resonators/tips and weld in some pipe and 4" polished tips.

Got exactly the sound I was looking for for less than 1/2 the price of a bolt-on system.

Sounds much better than stock. Now we just needs some rev and/or drive by samples.

Good deal! I actually researched doing that with the 11385 but when I mentioned it to the shop they didn't feel confident they could install it where the stock muffler was. I didn't really feel like taking a chance so dismissed the idea

So what you're implying is that your wife is not sexy enough and you need to compensate. I will tell her you said that...

While on the subject of sexy wives, in your research, have you come up with any high flow catalytic converters ? Or can the SRT ones, if different and if presumably higher flow, fit under our cars ? That might save the polar bears and add some horsepower...and make sexy noises...

I was fortunate enough to convince my lady to rev that engine a few times

Yeah, don't do that..she dislikes that I spend so much time on this forum as it is lol

I'm gonna regret saying this but honestly there's not much concern with adding horsepower. My searches have been based on aesthetic pleasure so I really don't know
