Re: Optima Battery

Just an FYI , XS Power makes an AGM battery that is a direct replacement to the factory battery

Re: Optima Battery

I just ordered an Optima yellow top for my '07 Xterra Off Road SUV. It wasn't cheap, but I am hoping it lasts longer than the 2 previous Kirkland batteries. They sucked!

Hmmm - Costco used to sell Optima batteries, but quit carrying them about 2 or 3 years ago because of problems customers were having with them, including me. I had to replace 2 Costco bought Optima batteries in 2 different vehicles because they started to leak. I think I'll try an AGM type battery next time ...

Re: Optima Battery

Optima batteries are AGM batteries. And a large number of dead optima's are operator error, be it a yellow top in a stock vehicle or a red top in a jeep with a winch, general and generic examples, but also charging systems and household chargers kill Optima's too.. There where plenty of duds too.

Why is everyone so eager to swap out for another style as our batteries are darn nicely sized AGM's to start.. There's only three mass manufacturers of batteries anyway..
I've got a nifty tip for ya, the diesel comes with an H8 instead of an H7 a little more capacity, now there's an upgrade.. It's cheap and easy you just gotta figure out how it fits???

XS are seriously nice but unless your in need of that level of refinement, think high end audio and monitors, here's very little appreciable gain... at almost three times the cost.
There are some super nice new tech Lithium cell monsters out there $600-$3000 but they are super sensitive to draining, they weigh maybe 15lbs though so expensive but real hp gains, like .4hp

The direct replacement xs power can be had for $278 online which I didn't think was bad at all. You need a $18 post kit for it though

Re: Optima Battery

Please don't think I mean to discredit this battery it is an awesome product that has fit a need I've had several times in the past. But for me the picky ass nature of the WK2 and the asshats that pass for trained service writers around here have turned me into one stealthy sob with anything non stock appearing.

That is a big difference at $300,shipped?,but it is the "correct" battery only by specs, in no way is it a drop in replacement.. I'm not saying you are wrong at all just underestimating the pita fabbing a nice bottom mount for a battery can be. Shops around here love saying they can do it, then....People ride around with clunking batteries for months until they find the right size wood block to shove in there.... Then they come over and we fix the bs. No thank you, I have the tools and material to put a lithium in there in a custom cradle, but I also have a militant service manager with the warranty denied stamp ready to go, right or wrong he's a pita..

I found a way to add some reserve,CA,AH with an OE hold down and batt size... Don't get me wrong I modify the crap out of everything, I'm just old as shit now and like to figure out better ways to skin a cat. It took me 2 hours to put air in my tires yesterday, dude watching was gonna shoot me just to put me out of my misery.
In a commuter car I'll take a little more reserve over super clean power, think leaving your lights on and the car starts when you get back vs. better equipment performance by 5-10%?

This batt is $180 installed everyday but sometimes as low as $130, and it's warrantied at 4000k stores, walk in. Backed by a billion dollar company, good and bad. I'm 90% it's made by Johnson Controls. AGM's are very well made at this level and the rate of error is super low in certain companies. They last longer by far and these are warrantied for 3/7yrs full/pro.

Re: Optima Battery

Are you referencing the OEM battery for the diesel wk2 here? Or regular gas wk2?

Interesting find. The dimensions of that battery are the same as the gas H7?
