Re: Power steering fluid

It may be because I discovered the same thing with my car....

But I took it in to the dealership and the service manager just topped it off and it had remained constant so I am guessing they were just underfilled.

But I will check it periodically to ensure that it is not consuming oil.

Yea I'd take it to get topped off or fill it yourself with the correct fluid depending on if you have the electric assisted (3.6 v6 only and build date dependent or the standard pump which should just take ATF +4 tranny fluid.

Re: Power steering fluid

I had the same problem with my 2012 Laredo when I bought it. Pointed it out before I left and while the mechanic was off getting some fluid I noticed the cap saying to use the required fluid that met certain specs. He came back and I asked him before he filled it up if he was sure it was the right fluid and he said yes (bottle said mopar power steering fluid). The next day I started worrying about it and researched and found out you are not supposed to mix different power steering fluids. I took it back and complained and he said they put the same power steering fluid in all the vehicles. Told him and the service manager my concerns and they printed off some paperwork that states what they use will work for "hybrid Power Steering units". I still had my doubts so I stopped at another dealership on the way home and bought a pint of the stuff that is supposed to go in it. Been sucking out the top of the reservoir with a turkey baster and putting the new stuff in. What they used may be right but I do not trust dealerships to work on my vehicles but at the time I thought hey ,it is just power steering fluid. Nearly a thousand miles put on it since then (10 days ago) and no problems.

Re: Power steering fluid

I went to the dealership today and got it topped off.. They said its normal because it was shipped and some fluids need to be filled up, I also made sure its the correct power steering fluid as 2011 is different than 2012..
