Puff of smoke on cold startup.

Every now and then I get a puff of white smoke she I start my 13' GC overland 5.7. It's literally just a puff at initial start up and then goes away.

It seems more like smoke then it does vapor...but I need to do one more sniff test to confirm.

It only happens after the car has been sitting for a while.

I've seen people say that this can happen on an incline but it happens to me on my perfectly level driveway.

I installed a mopar cai recently, a while (more then 6 months ago) I installed a corsa exhaust.

Anyone have experience with something like this?

Re: Puff of smoke on cold startup.

Might be to much oil due to incorrect dip stick.

Re: Puff of smoke on cold startup.

There was a post just the other day about this problem, but it seems that it was more tied to being level when parked. There was a TSB (?) I think for certain V8 GC's and Durango's which required a different oil pan, IIRC.

Mine does it every so often as well. Always parked level.

Re: Puff of smoke on cold startup.

Mine does it every cold start. That is just vapor. There is some condensed water from air appears when exhaust is getting colder. When it warms up its doing like vaporizer. Particularly depends upon the weather. The stock resonators are made with a small hole to drain some condensed water. So less vapor. The others does not.

Re: Puff of smoke on cold startup.

Ok My brother's girlfriend has a 2012 V6 that was doing this very exact thing. I thought it was too much fuel being thrown on start up causing "white smoke cloud" to appear out the back. So I told him that isn't right and to take it to the dealership in which he purchased it for her. The master mechanic there said it was the fuel injectors putting too much fuel into the engine when being start up. The thing was when you turn the Key to on then to start there is supposed to be a slight delay so that this issue doesn't occur. Come to find out his jeep wasn't giving the delay. I'd take it back to your dealership and said F*** that fix my JEEP...

Also this is only if your smoke is white in color if it comes out... If it's black then it is an OIL issue...

Re: Puff of smoke on cold startup.

Lets say that smoke in blue colors means oil issues, in black thats is fuel issue (too rich air/fuel mixture or ignition issue ) and white is a vapor due to condensed water in exhaust or or leak of cooling liquid to cylinders bores.
I'd never heard about orange or green smoke😜
