Re: Real world mileage numbers for V6 and Hemi?

I'm not seeing any difference between the use of 87 or 89. Mileage now the weather is warming into 30-40 degree area is 19-21 between 60-73 mph. Haven't been doing
much city driving.

Re: Real world mileage numbers for V6 and Hemi?

Wow. Just drove to Ft Worth and back.Almost all highway, 65-75 mph, 320 miles round trip. I got 20 mpg with my Hemi (2500 miles on odometer). I am stoked. I keep track of EVERY fillup with mymilemarker.com. Total average YTD 16.5mpg (mostly highway, city on my days off). My Infiniti G37S was 17.1mpg over 3 years.(mostly city)

Re: Real world mileage numbers for V6 and Hemi?

Just returned from my annual trip to the Florida panhandle area with my V6 OL 4x4. I've done this trip at the same time of year for about 15 years now, so was interested to see how the WK2 would compare. These are all computed figures from fuel receipts; not EVIC figures.

These are not attempts at best mileage, just what I got using my long distance highway norms: 75 to 85mph when traffic and smokies allow, which was most of the time, otherwise go with the Interstate flow. The mileage is about 98 percent highway, since I had another vehicle to share driving duties once in FL. Car loaded with gear. My WK2 has had the recent ESC and PCM/TCM TSBs applied.

Distance: 4,998 km (3,106 miles)
Mileage: 10.17 L per 100 km
27.8 mp Imperial gallon
23.1 mp US gallon

This is 10 percent better that the very best I ever did on the equivalent trip in my old XJs with 4.0L in-line 6 engine (and 15 percent better than that old vehicle average).

Not the 32 mp Imperial gallon which Chrysler claims the V6 can achieve on the Canadian highway mileage test, but if my foot was lighter it might be just possible.

Factor in the huge upgrade in comfort, quiet and yes, even power, and I like it!

Re: Real world mileage numbers for V6 and Hemi?

So I did it. Yup 500 miles on 1 tank.

Filled up near Oakland airport friday. Picked up a friend and drove up to Yosemite National park to camp.
Jeep with 2 people and a bunch of camping gear including firewood. Nothing on the roof except Mopar crossbars.

Drove back sunday night. Took friend back to airport monday. Drove around town for work monday and tuesday.

Just filled up.
23.25 gal
$4.299/gal
$100.05
500.5 miles.
21.5 average mpg

Not bad for a V6 fairly loaded going up and down the sierra nevada....

also an FYI for you guys who tow/haul and go up hills....
There's an especially steep stretch for about 1.8 miles. Not sure of the grade. but I'd say around average 14% (1350' elevation gain in 1.8 miles). Needless to say trucks and trailers are not allowed. There is alternate newer highway.
Ambient temps were about 80-85F.
Coolant got up to about 233 and same with oil temp.
Trans temp got up to about 180.
Jeep Pentastar pulled strong.
I'd estimate about 400 lbs. of passengers plus about a couple hundred pounds of gear.

Once we got up top and started cruising again the temps leveled out fairly quickly.
Normally I run about 210 coolant, 180 oil, and 165 trans.
