Re: Speed Governor - How to Remove or Disable

Based on what I've seen with tuners of other brands and heard through the ever-reliable internet rumor mill, I'd guess that we'll see one or more tuners break through the electronic roadblocks erected by Chrysler sometime in the next few months. The first one to do it will make a fair amount of money, too!

I wouldn't be too concerned about the roadworthiness of the GC at higher speeds, with the caveat that you'd want to install the appropriate tires (Tire Rack lists, I think, 13 options for 20" tires that are V-rated, up to 149 mph). The bigger concerns would be retaining your license and avoiding mayhem when Grandma pulls out of her driveway.

+1. I'm in Europe. I have an imported usa car. Noticed the limiter on the German autobahn ( partly no speed limits). Limiter is only there because of the limited tires ( Fortera's). Jeep itself handles very well on + 110 mph.
In normal traffic you don't need the extra speed ( about 15 mph extra) but I don't like it that Jeep put on a limiter to save money on tires.

Re: Speed Governor - How to Remove or Disable

Our wk2 jeeps handle better than any other similar suv's due to the mercedes sourced design of the suspension ( if not mistaken from prev generation of the ml and gl suvs) now with the hemi we need to find a way to remove the damn limiter... Agree on the fact that we need to uPgrade tires

Re: Speed Governor - How to Remove or Disable

It isn't the top speed that interests me as much as the acceleration of my GC. I like the "all-around" ability of the GC. Would I mind the vehicle not being limited? No, I wouldn't mind. Would I even notice? Probably not.

Noticed it on the A6 towards K-Town myself... Depressing, really, especially with the V8 barely over 2K RPM at that point...

Re: Speed Governor - How to Remove or Disable

Made a deal with the dealer; when the tires need replacement, new tires and the limiter goes off

So based on the rate of climb, I'd say the engine still had lots left.
Really 120? My Governor kicks in at 112.

All the guys with WK2 SRT8s

I say if you want speed and have the autobahn for your driving get an SRT8. Cruise at 160mph and be totally safe and have the suspension, tires, brakes, and everything else meant for those speeds.
