Re: Suitcase muffler exposed

Wow I never thought that the suitcase was so restrictive with all that back and forth piping.

So the definitive answer the next time someone ask is :

Drop suitcase for performance.

Drop resonators for sound.

Thanks

It's pretty quiet until you get on it, and then it get's pretty loud. There's no drone on the highway and very little on the interstate.

Re: Suitcase muffler exposed

Catbacks make very little power...10-20 hp at most and that's on supercharged/turbocharged cars. Less on N/A cars. Most power to be gained from is from high flowing catalytic converters or lack thereof, but then you will be responsible for killing the polar bears. For those who find solace in dyno numbers, here's a couple from a Wrangler.

But then again, most people incorrectly associate noise with power...so it shouldn't be a problem to have a "manliness" boost with more decibels than horsepower.

well I never said noise makes power. I did say "Little Boost" and its not horse power that matters. it's the torque, something a decent cat back makes the most of. I don't want to start an internet war but the biggest gains are not gonna be from hi-flo cats, but going to headers from the log style manifolds. the biggest way to boost power now days is in the tune and the reason intakes and exhaust don't make a lot without an aftermarket tune, is because the factory does not tune for peak power but the best of both efficiency and power.

I still stick to my guns that (at least on my 3.7) that a fully setup exhaust will be worth up to 30 on a n/a.

BTW I have seen turbo cars pick up as much as 60hp from freeing up the exhaust

Re: Suitcase muffler exposed

I did increase the power, how much I don't know, but I can definitely feel the difference. Decibels do increase with horse power, but just because you increase the decibels, doesn't mean you increased the HP. I want to buy a tuner, but I can't see buying one for the price they want. If they did what my Access Race Tuner did for my WRX, I'd buy one tomorrow.

Re: Suitcase muffler exposed

Yes, there is a tuner for the Jeep that apparently mimics Cobb Access Port but I am not sure I would buy it for a measly 20 hp gain. Maybe down the line.

Re: Suitcase muffler exposed

With Cobb you can download software for your laptop and then you can tune with that software. You can create your own tunes. It was the best tuner I have used by far. What's the name of the tuner?

Re: Suitcase muffler exposed

I know, I ran it briefly on my Legacy GT and then I left it for the experts to tune. By 2007 I switched to Open Source. the name is DIABLO SPORT / DIABLO TUNER and there are a few threads on the second page of this forum.

Re: Suitcase muffler exposed

I've used Diablo on my SS Silverado and on my 06 GTO. Unless they have really changed, they're nothing like Cobb. I'll check out that thread. Thanks
