Isn't that a wash though because you have to use high-test gas instead of regular once you've got the supercharger? I think...

^yeah usually once you boost a n/a motor you want the higher octance to decrease the possibilities of detonation so you can get the most out of the tune.

I highly doubt it because for one a SC will introduce some parasite drag to the engine which normally hurts mileage when cruising and for two the SC will increase airflow and power which will increase fuel consumption.

Your not gonna get better mileage because you'll flat out drive it harder.

Re: Supercharger for 3.6 V6 in development

Wont the extra HP run a chance of damaging some of the drivetrain components or do ya think they are strong enough to handle?

I'm thinking there is a weak link yet to be found after the extra hp grabs on the ground the first few runs.

Re: Supercharger for 3.6 V6 in development

If the drivetrain is the same as the srt it shouldn't be a problem. Even if its the same as the v8's (which i'd guess it is to save money) it should be fine. Usually a drivetrain is slightly over-engineered for the stock power level's. I'm at 100+ whp over stock in my evo and haven't had any issues. Then again there is always some trial and error to find out exactly what the limits of the stock components are...

Re: Supercharger for 3.6 V6 in development

It's probably a Vortec supercharger packaged by RIPP for the WK2. I've been looking at a RIPP for my JK for a few years now and will probably finally pull the trigger this winter.

The original JK version uses a piggyback computer and extra supplementary fuel injectors. It wasn't very good. Hopefully RIPP doesn't go this route because they can't break the encrypted PCM. I would definitely not run a piggyback system. The latest JK version reprograms the ECU/PCM and replaces the stock injectors with larger units. It seems to work very well.

The only knock I've heard about them is that they can be loud. That complaint coming from JK guys is probably something to be concerned about since JK guys with soft tops on huge tires aren't exactly noise sensitive. Especially in comparison to the WK2 crowd who enjoy their quiet rides.

The vortec is a centrifugal supercharger. It won't add a bunch of power down low. Power probably starts coming on at 2,000+ RPM and is most noticeable in the mid-range and top-end.

Re: Supercharger for 3.6 V6 in development

i just wish they would hurry up and get it out there. Chances are they are running into issues however. My guess is the ecu is putting up a fight.
