If you are buying everything anyway, why not just do it yourself?

I let the dealer change the oil when the EVIC tells me to with dino oil. I don't see the point of synthetic oil in a daily driver.

Re: Synthetic Oil

Has anyone tracked possible MPG increase by switching to synthetic oil?

Re: Synthetic Oil

I tracked mine. It went up slightly, but not much. And I do not know if I can attribute directly to the synthetic oil or other factors (warmer temperatures, local gasoline changes from winter to summer gas, etc). I feel better using the synthetics for the 8000 mile oil change interval. I run synthetics in my other vehicles as well.

Re: Synthetic Oil

Oh absolutely, synthetic is the only way to go. I even run synthetic in my lawn mower.

Re: Synthetic Oil

Red Line is the best out there from my experience with road racing and track day cars. My second favorite is Mobil 1 followed by Castrol.

I have had bad experiences with Amsoil on race engines and track day cars when compared to Mobil, Castrol and Red Line. Especially in M engines and air cooled Porsche turbos.

I would never use Royal Purple in anything. Ever.

No just because a NASCAR team runs a sponsor decal for an oil company it doesnt mean they use their products in their race engines. Maybe their transporters but not their race cars. Same holds true for NHRA.

I am not sure who Ferrari, Mercedes and Renault use for their F1 engines but i makes bottles of Chateau Margaux look cheap in comparison

Agree entirely. Friends don't let friends use Amsoil or Royal Purple.

Re: Synthetic Oil

My dealer in Denver put a sticker in the corner of windshield that said free oil change at 3,000 so I took them up on it although I did take my own Mobil One to switch to synthetic. Thing is, no one told me I should change it at 3,000 but I figured there was a reason for the sticker. Anyway, it makes me feel good to make one early change and to switch to synthetic.

I also read on a website pertaining to MPG that a synthetic would get you 6% improvement. That would be about 1 mpg if you are getting 18-19 mpg with dino oil. Not bad but I don't how authoritative that is.

Re: Synthetic Oil

For my First Oil change i chose Quaker State Defy, SynthBlend with Heavy Zinc for extra break in help.

Don't need it tickin like my 4.0L ust to do because of the lack of zinc.
