I own a trio of Jeeps and a Mustang GT. One of the Jeeps has the ancient 4.0L inline 6 just because it is an engine that has always served me well. The other vehicles have a 4.7L HO V8, 5.7L Hemi and a 4.6L V8. I do all my own maintenance work on these vehicles. Not because I have to but because I enjoy it and find it relaxing for the most part. Maintenance and gas mileage isn't something you'll ever see me complaining about.

I don't know how "common" my feelings are, but want my 4X4 family hauler to be quick. As I said when I started the thread, the V-6 didn't come close to meeting my needs speedwise. I did love the car in most other respects. I know the SRT8 next year will be more than enough, but I don't know if I can wait a whole year. So, the HEMI might have to do.

My concern is the WKII not being as quick as my WK1 due to the excess weight. The official figures have them lineball (but independent figures will tell the truth!)
Nothing worse than taking a step backwards!

How ironic this post is. You drive an 01 4.7L Power tech V8 producing a weak ass 235hp and 295 ib ft of torque

Oh, and sorry to say, stock for stock my 08 4.7L at over 1,200lbs more than your weak WJ 4.7L gets to 60 in 7.3 seconds. I believe tests at the time for your 4.7L put it at about 7.46 (Motortrend). You also get the same gas mileage.

I am still thinking about the SRT. When I saw the new WK2 I was ready to jump, but since I only have 42K on my 08 Laredo I may just wait a year or two to see how the SRT looks when/if it is released. I do miss my 06 SRT.

The weight of the car itself is the big enemy here...290-300hp is nothing to sneeze at...will be heading down to the dealership to check out some WK2s V6 soon

So in summary, the V6 is underpowered for the WK which they made EVEN heavyer for the new model. So nothing has changed...Plus they lowered the gear ratio on the Hemi to 3.47 (from 3.73) to neuter that a little bit. oh well, the new trans should solve that.

On a positive note, the 3.6 should at least be pretty decent in the Liberty.
