It does ratchet in and out like you noticed in videos. But only near the last turn or two before being tight. I never had a leak from removing it and reinstalling it. You can purchase just the plug if you are worried about breaking it or the seal having a set. I can provide the part number if you like.

That would be great! I'm thinking if in the future the cost of the fluid ever goes down, I'll just do a "flush", by draining it and refilling a few times. But not at $40.00 a quart! By the way, where is the fill plug located on the ZF-8 Speed?

The fill plug is on the passenger side of the transmission right above the sticker on the pan. The fill plug is also available from your Jeep dealer too.

Drain plug 68174052AA

Re: Trans oil change?

Nice! Will that bolt right up to ZF 8-Speeds on the Grand Cherokee's without any clearance issues?

Re: Trans oil change?

It's nice but not worth it IMO unless you're beating on the thing either racing or serious towing. I don't remember the temps off the top of my head but dropping out of eco mode towing my boat (23f) for about 30 minutes of stop and go and highway there was only a 5 degree change.

The ZF they put in the Hemi Jeep is a very good unit.

Re: Trans oil change?

Dont know, I would have to look at part #'s of pans to see if the eco deisel ram pan fits any of the wk2 applications. also would have to check any clearance.

another website has the pan listed for 250$, but sounds like these are just coming out and I cant find the pricing on the filter they use.

hopefully early adopters can give feedback.

I dont want to spend 260$ just for pan/filter every time I change fluid.

The ZF 8-Speed a good unit. No question about it. The biggest gripe is the cost of a fluid / filter / pan transmission service. It runs at or over $800.00, for parts and labor which is insane. With this pan you're only looking at $350.00, and it's not only reusable, but made from metal instead of disposable plastic. And it has a nice resealable drain plug. (Not sure how well the plastic one reseals). They're meant to be disposable. So if you can find a good deal on fluid, the cost would be the same or less than if you took it to the dealer. And let's be honest. Does anyone really believe there is such a thing as "lifetime" fluid?
