Re: Underwhelmed by HEMI

I am totally disappointed with the HEMI; this is my 7th Grand Cherokee since 1995 ... so I know the Grand Cherokees well. I've had 4 situations where this Jeep would not accelerate and I feel the Overland HEMI is dangerous. I can't depend on it to get out of its own way.
I took it to the dealer and their conclusion is, the Jeep will not downshift between 35-50MPH. They said they tried other Overland HEMI's on the lot and got the same results. They said there are no TSB's about it, so there is nothing they can do … seriously??? Nothing?!!?? I am going higher up the food chain to get a resolution … it's just not safe!
As a side note: this lack of performance also occurs in 'Sport' mode.

I just have a Laredo X with the Hemi and mine downshifts fine from any speed. It has a little issue right about 40mph but most cars have a trouble area. Downshift using the stick or hit the gas more, maybe.

Did this just happen or did it do it on the test drive also?

I would switch to the turbo diesel Jeep in a heartbeat.
I just saw this, sorry...

I love the internet. It comes down to an all out race car to prove a point about a JGC.

I will take my chances with a gasser Hemi in a race modded or stock against a diesel with similar mods. I love this thread.

Check out this ETC thread from the WK guys: Electronic Throttle Control (ETC) .. let's discuss

Or similar issues with WK2 Pentastar: Pentastar Throttle delay

I have the same throttle lag experience with mine especially if you floor it quickly. If you roll into the throttle and feed it down it responds quickly just like you expect.

Re: Underwhelmed by HEMI

Probably torque management coming into effect. It pulls spark advance substantially, with the idea that it will save the transmission.

My Trailblazer SS (6.0L LS2) had the same thing, which was quickly remedied by a simple upload of a new tune. It drives so much better. The extra power is nice, but the improved transmission algorithms are a night and day difference.

Sorry, my area has too many redneck racers with their hemi RAM trucks that drive like idiots constantly... including one that tried to pass me in the jeep this morning and failed to do so until I had to slow up for the school bus in front of me (which he illegally passed and I hope the driver got his plate). The V6 vs hemi battles on here smell of the same attitude. The hemi is a nice engine, but when its in something that weighs 5,000 pounds it doesn't exactly make for a combination that's exactly mind blowing and the V6 is slightly less mind blowing.
I now have to chime on this old post. I own a 2009 Dodge Ram 1500 Laramie 4X2 HEMI with the 3.92s. I do not race or even attempt to but there is NO WAY you would EVER beat me in my Ram with the 2011 JGC with a V-6 or even a V-8 for that matter. The person you were racing either had a V-6 in their truck or didn't know how to drive. Even a V-8 Ram without the 3.92s would beat you in a V-6 because they're geared more aggressively and the HEMI is set-up differently in the Ram hence the greater 30 HP numbers etc.

OMG you have now became my new best friend on this site. Took the words right out of my month
WOW just taking shots at all Dodge 5.7L HEMI owners huh? LOL. I'm sure you're just messing around and although I don't race, my 2009 Dodge 5.7L HEMI Ram with 3.92s wouldn't have much of a problem with your MKZ

And they weigh a good 500 lbs more than the jeep I know my dads 4x4 qc 5.7 with the 3.92s is a little slower than my 5.7 jeep. Your gears mean little when you account for your extra 3 inches of tire size anyway.
