I topped out at just under 140 which was redline in 4th... not on a public road of course... not smart either.

Not defensive at all. I just have no tolerance for BS.

If we're going to stray from manufacturers specs to get times, then:

2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland (V-8) 0-60 mph 6.9 Quarter Mile 15.3

http://www.zeroto60times.com/Jeep-0-60-mph-Times.html

According to C&D's test sheet, they didn't put the GC into sport mode, becuase ESC was left enabled. That GC also has the ORA package, so they're dragging around another what, 400 lbs in skid plates the vast majority of GC's don't have?

The engineers quoted a 0-60 time of 8.4 sec of the HEMI. I wouldn't trust any site that is called "zeroto60times". They also have two times for the SRT8. They don't quote the source..... so many things wrong with that site.

Re: Underwhelmed by HEMI

Also, why in the hell are we comparing a car to a SUV? Not only that, even if you wanted to compare a car to a SUV, why would you compare the base engine to a top of the line engine. 0-60 times mean nothing. Any car can go 0-60 very fast. If you want to compare the two cars, lets see how fast the two cars are starting at 80-90 MPH.

Come on KR, keep up.

We're comparing a Sonata and a Hemi WK2 because Imma goin to lose a pinkslip to the next Hyundai stoplight throwdown.

Or gawd forbid I actually win the Sonata. The Horror.

When I was doing research before buying, the 8.4sec number I saw from Chrysler engineers was for the V6 Laredo. FWIW, my Hemi 4x4 has no trouble pulling ahead of my neighbor's Audi Q7 4.2 V8 to 60mph by just over a car length...over and over. (Q7 0-60 magazine tested 7.2 to 7.4sec range). I believe magazines still use a GtechPro, not a track-timed measurement; that can yield wildly varied results if not perfectly calibrated. YMMV.

The Hemi is no street racing beast by any means, but it's no slouch either.

Moose, I hear you on the fat butt thing. A couple of us big guys in a Sonata would probably make it ride on the suspension stops.

Question:
What are the official 0-60 times for the V6 and the Hemi?

Answer:
~8.9 for V-6
~7.8 for V-8
I was wrong, 7.8 sec.

Re: Underwhelmed by HEMI

I test drove the v6 and the v8 extensively at the dealership before committing and whilst I was driving a Hemi Ram 1500 and an '09 Mustang GT in the last year, the Overland V6 is perfectly adequate. The v8 Overland was IMHO not as civilized as the v6 and after ~ 130 miles of test drive I chose the V6. Admittedly the wife will also drive the Jeep ( she loved the '10 Ram as a passenger but wouldn't drive it) so I went for the "compromise" and have no regrets. If you don't have QL then that is the real loss ( I had an '06 LR3 diesel in Europe and that was a great vehicle, but the Jeep rocks price wise and has a much better interior.) Looking at gas prices the annual saving may be worth it, but then I change vehicles every year anyway - bring on the diesels I say.

Re: Underwhelmed by HEMI

I traded an 09 Honda Pilot for the Hemi powered GC. I wasn't looking for a performance SUV, just something more exciting and a better boat hauler. I drove both, the V6 and the Hemi. While sacrificing a couple MPGs the torque was what was needed along with that legendary V8 sound! Then I noticed the V6 didn't have dual exhaust, the V8 was the choice. I didn't want someone following me and looking at one exhaust and saying he must of run out of money and couldn't afford the Hemi.....LOL! If you are looking for hot rod performance, buy a sports car. If you want functionality with luxury, the jeep fits the bill.
