Just my two cents...
The days of cheap gas are gone...forever...

...and the days of the V8 in new passenger vehicles are numbered as well.

The replacement of the V8 will come in the form of smaller displacement turbocharged engines, like Ford's "EcoBoost" engines.

Re: V-6 or V-8, regrets?

I'll just say there's a world of difference between the V6 w/6 spd tranny I had in my '08 Buick Enclave and the V6 w/8spd in my Jeep. Weight difference isn't substantial, but performance difference is amazing. And fuel economy is also much better. I'm not knocking the GM, just pointing out how the V6 is being developed over time to become the engine of choice for a majority of vehicles. There will always be folks who want a V8, and that's fine. Remember Tim the Tool Man Taylor, "More Power!" But for the masses, V6 will do just fine, and perform admirably.

This is an excellent argument for leasing. If 2016 rolls around and gas is $6 a gallon and no one is buying GC's anymore (or going for the WK3 that will get *ahem* 35mpg), just wash your hands of it.

If people are still buying them because gas is still "cheap" at $4 a gallon, either buy and keep, or buy and flip!

Not to mention, for most folks, an almost 300hp V6 that "supposedly" gets 24mpg on the highway is a very acceptable pivot point. A V8 GC would probably just get me into trouble.

The only mark in the plus column for me and the V8 personally would be that gorgeous exhaust note. But our use is as a family hauler, not a tow vehicle or "fun truck."

But I can see the argument. It has been noted that no one ever said, "you know, I think I should've gotten the smaller TV set."

Unless it doesn't fit in the door.

Please, you are talking about a Durango which is a heavier vehicle than the GC. My 0-60 times on my Diablosport Hemifever tuned GC is 6.5 seconds as measured on my trinity. I'd like to see the V6's come even close to those numbers.

Re: V-6 or V-8, regrets?

I personally don't need those numbers, as I don't drag race my Jeep. All the fancy mods and measuring equipment you have must be fun, and you're certainly entitled to have all the fun you can, but I think most drivers haven't even heard of those things, and are very happy with the V6 performance. I once owned a '68 Dodge Charger with the real hemi, now that was for drag racing. Care to line your Jeep up next to something like that?

Re: V-6 or V-8, regrets?

Has there ever been a car in existence that came with a V6 and a V8 option where people didn't argue about which was better.. lol. Its like asking if pants are better than shorts... if its hot out one is better than if its cold out. Just makes me chuckle as engine choice is a very old argument as far as cars go...
