Consumer reports doesn't understand Jeeps, particularly the Wrangler. I always get irritated when the point out wind noise, fit and finish, driving characteristics, etc. I guess they have to grade it, but clearly they don't understand the vehicle.

I feel sad for them. :-)

And we are in a Liberty right now as a loaner, one of the consistently "disappointing" and outclassed vehicles in its category. But I really like it. I don't know if I would buy it over a Forester, but I really like it, and I understand what it is. Glad it is being replaced by something that hopefully will review better against other entries in the segment, but I get it.

Consumer reports doesn't get it.

They never have. I haven't picked up a car review of theirs since the late 70's. Back then they rated all US cars at least 2 (out of 5) points lower than all Japanese cars, which they loved. My old rusted Ford was dependable as heck, and my friends with Toyotas had duck tape holding their interiors together.

They should stick to washers and dryers...

Consumer reports, JD Power etc.etc. None of them have any merit. Just saw something about how one of them gave awards several years in a row to a KIA Optima. My wife's friend has a Sonata which is the same car pretty much. It never leaves the shop. They always gave Audi a bad reliability. I had an A6 avant that went to 132,000 before I sold it. The only major thing needed was a torque converter at 119,000. Other than that it was just maintenance. That seems pretty reliable to me. I only trust true car or truck magazines. They know what they are actually looking at.

Someone needs to do a "review" on Consumer Reports. I reckon their reliability for what they do will rank as "below average"!

How interesting. I guess mine was made on a good day in the morning when everyone is attentive. 1.5 year old 2012 Summit, 34k miles and it hasn't gone to get repaired for anything, not even once. It's as reliable as the sun coming up the next day, knock on real wood trim.

JD Power is nothing but a series of polls. There's no hard science or hands-on at all. They're bean-counters.

I once had an argument with a guy on a message board who claimed that I had a lot to learn about cars, and that he was a "car guy"; and expert. It turns out that he get his knowledge from "Car and Driver" and such. My expertise is from wrenching: maintaining, modifying and restoring, and reading books to help me do all that. And using my engineering education to figure out the rest. Heck, I even figured out how to do my own front end alignments.

Yeah, I've got a lot to learn about cars. I hope to continue to do that every day.

"Back in the day" it was said to avoid a car that was built on a Monday, because the workers were hung-over from the weekend, or a Friday, because they were day-dreaming about the weekend.

And avoid Wednesdays cuz all they could think about was hump day. Then avoid Tuesday cuz the people were just getting back to normal work. So I guess that leaves Thursday but then they are dreaming on Friday.

I always relate it to the more money you spend, the more you will expect or complain. I've noticed little things on the jeep that are not there on my BMW. I said in my head "well, not too bad for an American car though". If it was the BMW, I would complain and have it fixed. I'm debating on whether or not it will fall on deft ears if I complain to jeep. However, jeep is in this premium market now. More people will complain about things overlooked in lesser brands. I suspect this has a lot to do with these surveys. Lower level car owners don't expect more and don't complain. Premium brands do though. That is why Hyundai is rated well and Audi or BMW are not.

Nice to know you have a BMW and seem to like it but this isnt a comparison between jeep and BMW.....by the way explain to us all why Hyundai jeep and Honda and many other car makers offer leather in their vehicles and BMW offers cheap vinyl leatherette as standard on alot of their vehicles and make you pay more for leather and actually make it option to have?
