I'm debating on whether or not it will fall on deft ears if I complain to jeep. However, jeep is in this premium market now. More people will complain about things overlooked in lesser brands. I suspect this has a lot to do with these surveys. Lower level car owners don't expect more and don't complain. Premium brands do though. That is why Hyundai is rated well and Audi or BMW are not.
This is the attitude that I've long despised with many BMW owners: pretentiousness. We got my wife one two years ago because her friend was on the sales staff. She's been looking forward nearly a year now to trade it in for something that's a better value.

You clearly have no understanding of quality. The BMW leatherette is of a better quality than what you call leather in a Hyundai. It's like calling the bubble wine you're drinking Champagne.

Yeah, some folks can't stand to see Jeep compared to anything else, or stand to see any negative comments about Jeep.

We can love our Jeeps all we want, but they are not perfect vehicles and comparisons are always valid, at least IMHO.

I would never drive a BMW, but even I will admit I would buy the leatherette in BMW and Mercedes because it is actually holds up better and doesn't need the maintenance. And you'd often be hard pressed to tell the difference. Amazing what modern synthetics can do.

I wasn't comparing them to eachother necessarily, just the fact that when you pay for premium, you expect zero issues. Jeep has entered into a market where they have never been before 2011. The buyers expect more and will complain about things overlooked in the past. This reflects surveys of new car reliability.

In regards to BMW offering cheap vinyl, I believe it is only on the 3 series and lower. There is also a huge difference in the quality of their materials. I have a 2011 328i xdrive, and the sticker is close to that of the jeep. The options are very similar. The BMW materials and overall fit, finish and quality are in another league compared to the jeep. Honda and the rest don't offer leather standard, so I'm not sure where you were going with that one. They offer cheap ass cloth. I would take the leatherette anyday over it. In order to get leather on a Honda, you end up paying a lot more money for a car that started as an economy car. I would rather have a leatherette equipped premium auto than a dressed up econobox. With that being said, I do love my GC. I would not have got it if I didn't. I was just trying to stick up for its bad reviews for reliability.

The question was why it's offered in the BMW line at all??? Some else's comments also means they clearly have no idea as to why BMW offers that in ANY OF THEIR VEHICLES LINEUPS.

Because BMW is like the Chevrolet or Chrysler of Germany. Their base cars there come with cloth. The leatherette is only in the basic models here at a basic price. Like I said, my 3 has similar options ad the Jeep and had premium leather. I have to go to the Overland to match it. Why have leather standard if it takes away from a market share of buyers who can't afford it. Imagine if jeep did away with the Laredo and only had the limited or higher.

How am I being pretentious?
