Re: V6 gas mileage

Just drive from Sacramento to LA for the weekend and back. Averaged 23 mpg, measured at the pump. Not to bad for having three people, luggage, and LA stop and go traffic.

Re: V6 gas mileage

Well tried the E85 fuel on a trip and was very disappointed. I was averaging about 24 MPG on a mostly highway trip with the E85 I averaged around 17MPG. I also noticed an even larger difference doing only city like driving. So at about $0.90 less a again it actually cost me more money per mile. Too bad.

Re: V6 gas mileage

This is for Laredo X 4x4. About 2,000 miles on it.

Drove from DC to NYC yesterday. Outside temperature reached 102 F at times. AC on all the time. Reset EVIC some time after I got on the highway in DC, so mileage was about 210 miles. One patch of traffic about 45 minutes long

I got 24.7 mpg by EVIC (I found EVIC to be pretty accurate). I was driving at about speed limit, a lot of time using cruise control. It seems cruise control helps with the mileage. On my way to DC I got 23.5 MPG but used cruise control less.

Cruise control deff helps my gas mileage.

Re: V6 gas mileage

We avg about 17-19 in town and depending on my speed get anywhere from 21-27 on the highway all hand calc'd too, I don't trust vehicle computers for mpg's.
Highest ive seen was 28.5 on the evic with the ac running doing avg 80 mph. But when I hand calculated it it came out to 27.1 mpg.

Even when driving aggresivly I think the lowest my Jeep has read was about 14.5mpg and that was with no regard at all to mileage. If you were driving the same way with the hemi you will most likely be under 10mpg. That's almost 50% more mileage and is a huge difference in fuel cost especially if you are like me and need to fill up at least once a week. I would say I have a "normal" driving style and can easily hit 17+ combined hwy and city.

In the end it's tough to compare mpg numbers from different people as the way you drive almost plays as much of a role as the engine size.

Edit: as dckcentuar mentioned above the milage most definitly improved after the first 4 or so fill-ups
I know this is a V6 gas mileage thread but that statement is not entirely true. I have only 2300 miles on my 5.7 4x4 Overland Summit with QDII and QLII. Best 1 tank average has been 21.2 MPG hand calculated. Worst 1 tank average has been 16.7 MPG (heavy foot and lots of idling). Average since new according to the EVIC is at 18.3 at the moment. It was at 19.4 overall average 300 miles ago but since I got my exhaust and intake I like to stomp on it a lot more than normal. My daily drive consists time wise of 50/50 city/hwy (17 minutes of each) or mileage wise 35/65 city hwy (9 miles city 16 miles hwy). I drive normal not a lead foot and not grandma.

Re: V6 gas mileage

I just got back from a 4600 mile trip to the west coast in my Laredo X 4x4. The lowest tank I got (all measured based on fill-ups) was 19.8 that included some in-town driving while at my son's home in Eugene, OR area. The best I recorded was one tank of 23.6 returning home between Rock Springs, WY and North Platte, NE. Most highway tanks ran between 22-23 mpg, driving 75mph where possible except for Ore-a-slow, where it's 65mph. Overall I'm happy with the mileage.

E10 doesn't seem to make very much difference in mileage, maybe 1mpg loss max. The few times I've tried E85, however, it's pretty consistent at 25% less mileage. Therefore, the price differential must be more than 25% less than gas or E10 to make it worthwhile in my experience.

At 6500 miles I agree with your mileage findings. I also find E85 to be a quandry. I have read that it costs more to make than it saves in gas. It is also raising the price of our wild bird seed as the growers are changing their crops to corn in order to sell for ethanol. We use about 300 lbs of sunflower hearts feed per year. E10 is the norm here in NYS. We had one station in the neighborhood selling 100% gas, but changed to E10 earlier this month.

E85 produces 27 percent less energy per gallon than gasoline so unless it's heavily discounted it won't save you any money. You also have to remember that it's a government subsidized product so you're probably paying the cost difference anyways.

PROS
+ Renewable fuel
+ Uses up to 85 percent less imported petroleum
+ Less money goes overseas
+ You don't have to pay a premium for a flexible-fuel model

CONS
- Gets fewer miles per gallon than regular gas
- Environmental benefits unclear
- Possible effects on global food supply

Re: V6 gas mileage

Seems like the EVIC is a little generous on the average MPG. In almost all types of driving I've been doing, over a full tank of gas, I end up with about 21.x MPG. There was one week when I towed 6 tons of landscaping rock (on separate trips) and it dropped down to 19 MPG, but other than that, it's been pretty consistent.

One thing that was completely surprising is that I made it from Denver to SLC area and to work the next day on the tank of gas I filled up in Denver. I love the range this thing has.

I attached my mileage charts that I've been plotting with AccuFuel on my iPhone. My Jeep has about 3500 miles on it now.

Re: V6 gas mileage/good news bad news/fine trip

Drove back from DC to Boston today and I have never been as rested after a long drive. Even with the delays around George Washington Bridge (and no children singing "George Washington Bridge, George Washington Washington Bridge", but maybe it was always and only me being that annoying), I averaged 25.1 mpg.
The point of the trip was to drive a U-haul full of my daughter's furniture down to DC. The dealer installed the trailer hitch ($600) and it looks great. Works real well with bike racks but evidently they got the electrics wrong. No turn signal. So after an hour in line to get the u-hual, we couldn't get the signals to work so I thought I was shit out of luck. (sort of out of luck, since it has been 30 years since I have pulled a trailer, and I wasn't looking forward to relearning what I never was all that competent with in the first place. The good news was that given my advanced spatial, geometric and swearing skills, I was able to fit an incredible amount of her stuff in).
So I played a lot of good tunes, talked to my family on the sound system, and enjoyed a very comfortable ride.
