So, I'm starting to make my christmas list...
Has anyone on here gone from the K&N drop-in to the Volant CAI? The K&N sounds quite a bit better than the stock filter, but I was wondering if anyone could comment on the noise increase from the K&N to the PowerCore/CAI. I need more sound out of this engine without buying exhaust. Santa's sack won't be able to deliver a Corsa...
I installed my Volant the other day and I've noticed a slight whistle at roughly 1400-1700RPM's. It only happens in that RPM range and only under load, if i'm coasting down a hill in a lower gear and the engine runs in that range I don't hear it. I'm going to go through everything again and try and find a small leak but I would think it would make that sound acroos the entire RPM spectrum if it was a leak. Any ideas of where to look or is that normal?
I just installed the volant cai on my 2010 5.7 gc. I know that they don't technically make a cai for this model but I got the one for the 2008 srt to fit (model 17861 I believe). I also purchased a powercore but the volant rep said that this model isn't designed for the powercore. If I can get the powercore to fit, can anyone see any reason why i shouldn't use it? I like the idea of the dry filter with a longer life.
So far I just have the filter that came with the volant installed and it sounds 100x more manly than stock. Definitely worth the upgrade. Now time to decide what filter I want to keep on there permanently.
I don't think so. I haven't seen under the good hood of the 14s in person, but I'm pretty that its a completely different setup than the wks. You may be able to try the volant for the 2013s but not sure. If nothing else, wait a little while and I bet volant puts one out for the 14s sometime this year.
So what I'm hearing is that I should put the powercore filter into my 2010 5.7 instead of the cone that comes with the Volant kit even though the Volant tech rep told me that "it won't fit"?
77070042 - I think this is the part # but have yet to be able to find one to buy & install. I have been looking - not even sure if it will fit under the engine cover without cutting it.
I installed my Volant CAI a couple days ago and I am loving the sound and the improved throttle response... will have to wait for the newness to wear off to see and mpg increase... haha!!
Just ordered a Volant CAI w/ Powercore dry filter from New Level, $259.87 with free shipping after the "twenty" discount code. Was holding out to see how the stock air box sounded on a day-to-day basis, but the sound of that Hemi is just too addicting!
Just finished install, followed by a half-hour spin on the Interstate to test it out. Must say I am a bit disappointed. No noticeable difference - in sound or throttle response - until I got onto the highway ramp and more or less stood on the accelerator. And even then, sound was louder but power felt same as stock air box.
I am going to disconnect the negative battery terminal tomorrow and see if a reset makes any difference.
Give your engine time to adjust to the extra air. It is not like a big difference, but you will see in time that the response is a little more crisp I guess. The sound is not noticeable until you get on it. Otherwise you should not hear it.
The install was super easy, as others have said. Only issues I encountered have been well documented: Factory rubber grommet needed on bottom of box for proper fit, and plenty of spit to lubricate sensor or else it pushes gasket into tube. Otherwise, super easy (especially removal of stock box, which took about five minutes).
The aren't any advantages to running an "oiled cotton gauze" air filter over a quality dry filter, like the Donaldson power core filter offered by Volant in their Hemi CAI kit.
If you what to argue that oiled cotton gauze air filters are cleanable & reusable keep in mind that the synthetic media Donaldson Power core filter is rated for 100k miles before it needs to be replaced. That's a lifetime filter for most users! So if you don't go over 100K miles you won't have to replace it!
And most importantly do not ever forget the fact that;
The oiled cotton gauze air filters sold by K&N, Volant, Airaid, AFE, AEM, Injen and every other manufacturer.... may flow more air than a OEM paper filter they also allow more fine particles of dirt to enter your engine while doing it! Dry filters do not have any issues with oil entering your intake track and no oil passing over any intake sensors as well!
Hey Guys:
Just wanted to give you the 2 year rundown for the CAI. The only problem I have encounter is with the rubber grommet that holds the Intake temperature sensor. It fell apart in this period of time and it was a pain to get another one similar to replace it.
