Re: Vote: Mopar or volant cai

Ok, Here is my take:
I have the Mopar CAI install for a few weeks and the sound is great and the performance was very good.
Then I install the Volant for a few weeks and the sound was ok and the performance was so,so.
I went back and install the mopar and I am going to keep the mopar.
Volant sound is not the best and the performance was the same or less than the mopar.
Sorry but MOPAR all the way. Plus the fit on the Volant sucks it hit on the bottom the brake lines and I was worried that it will damege them in the long term. The fit for the Mopar is the best.

Did not notice this, but will go look now. Good info.

Re: Vote: Mopar or volant cai

I'm still waiting to see evidence of performance gain from any of these systems, esp. on the 2012 Hemi? I live/drive from 6,000 ft. to 10,000 ft. in CO and would like to open the gate for a few more HP, but since there is no chip yet I wonder if the sound is the only real affect and therefor a feeling of more power? I'm getting my 3K mile oil change at the dealer this week and will ask about the Mopar CAI, in the unlikely event they have any real data. When I look at the stock intake unit it seems pretty massive, the main difference being the air passes through the stock air cleaner. Hard to imagine much HP gain there.

I've read that when you install a new CAI you should disconnect the negative battery terminal for awhile to let the computer adjust. I don't understand how this takes place or whether it makes a difference? Some people say any increase in power from a CAI is "taken back" by the computer after a week or two, esp. w/o a chip which doesn't seem to exist yet. Does anyone have experience with these matters? Just trying to get educated in case I'm convinced a CAI would offer a real bump in performance.

Re: Vote: Mopar or volant cai

Pretty much without tuning there should be no long term performance gains. The computer will adjust to the new air and revert to stock power. We need tuning to get any real performance gains from CAI, exhaust, etc. Till then they are pretty noise makers.

Re: Vote: Mopar or volant cai

nonopr01 - can you be more specific on how your performance is better with the MoPar? 30-70 mph performance, did it last past two weeks, etc? I drive at high altitude and considering a CAI - I like the look and fit of the MoPar but as FundGuy says, none of this may make any difference until there is a chip. Also thinking of just doing an aFe drop-in filter in the meantime. I have 2012 5.7 Overland.

Re: Vote: Mopar or volant cai

I dont have a dyno slip to back up my comments. So for now I'm going to say:
Acceleration is a lot better in regard reaction time.
All CAI systems add about 5% more power to factory in general. If you want more then we need to work on programming.
The sound is a lot better that the one from Volant and the look is cleaner. Plus it is CARB approved which none of the others seem to be since they dont even have a sticker with the approval number.
I am not looking for my WK2 to become a Ferrari with the Mopar but sure sounds better and seems to have a better feel accelerating.
