I've been to three muffler shops now and gotten very different advice.
- Shop 1: Recommended Magnaflow muffles to replace both the stock muffler in the middle and stock resonators in the back (so four total Magnaflows). This would be $650 with custom tips of my choice. Also gave the option of just doing Magnaflows to replace the resonators in the back and just straight pipes up front (no muffler) for $450 with tips.
- Shop 2: Recommended leaving the stock muffler up front and putting two Flowmaster Hushpower mufflers in place of the resonators in back. He claims he's done that on another WK2 and it sounded great. With tips of my choice, it would be $600. Also says if I don't like it they will keep at it until I do like it (not sure what that means...).
- Shop 3: Recommended replacing the stock muffler up front with two "glass pack" mufflers up front and leaving the stock resonators in the back. He claims he's done that on another WK2 and it sounded great. Not including tips, he only wants $200. Also says if I don't like it, he'll happily put the stock muffler back in for free (but no refund on the mufflers).
I asked all three shops about installing a Dynomax Cat Back system (love the price point and the youtube videos sound good, imho). All three recommended I stay away and scoffed at the 90 day guarantee.
At this point I'm leaning toward shop #3. I'm nervous about how it will sound, but I like the $200 price tag. If it's still too quiet, he said we would tackle the resonators next.
